[Aortic valve stenosis is associated with reduced myocardial perfusion as assessed by videodensitometry in coronary angiograms].

UNLABELLED: Aortic valve stenosis may be accompanied by angina despite coronary arteries free of significant stenosis due to microvascular abnormalities. AIMS: The aim of the current study was to test whether densitometry-derived myocardial perfusion on coronary angiogram is reduced in patients with aortic valve stenosis. METHODS: The study comprised 20 patients with aortic valve stenosis (mean transvalvular gradient: 47.4±15.2 mm Hg) and 30 control subjects without significant epicardial coronary artery stenosis. A quantitative parameter of myocardial perfusion was calculated by the ratio o

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in Detecting Subclinical Changes in Glaucoma Suspects: A Scoping Review.

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) offers a promising approach for detecting subclinical microvascular changes in glaucoma suspects before structural or functional damage becomes apparent. This scoping review synthesizes evidence from 11 studies (2014-2025) to evaluate OCTA's effectiveness in identifying early glaucomatous alterations. Findings consistently demonstrate reduced vessel density (VD) in glaucoma suspects compared to healthy controls, with whole-image VD averaging 51.3% versus 55.5% (P<0.001), respectively. OCTA-derived parameters, particularly peripapillary and macula

Retinal Microvascular Alterations as the Biomarkers for Alzheimer Disease: Are We There Yet?

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer disease (AD) is a heterogeneous and multifactorial disorder with an insidious onset and slowly progressive disease course. To date, there are no effective treatments, but biomarkers for early diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression offer a promising first step in developing and testing potential interventions. Cerebral vascular imaging biomarkers to assess the contributions of vascular dysfunction to AD are strongly recommended to be integrated into the current amyloid-β (Aβ) [A], tau [T], and neurodegeneration [(N)]-the "AT(N)" biomarker system for clinical resea

Atorvastatin increases myocardial indices of oxidative stress in a porcine model of hypercholesterolemia and chronic ischemia.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Atorvastatin has previously been shown to reduce the endogenous angiogenic response to chronic ischemia in a porcine model. One possible mechanism for this effect is reduced bioavailability of nitric oxide, a key mediator of angiogenesis, secondary to increased oxygen free radicals. We sought to determine if atorvastatin modulates oxidative stress in myocardial tissue. METHODS: Dietary induction of hypercholesterolemia was performed over 20 weeks in Yucatan swine with treated animals receiving atorvastatin 3 mg/kg/day. Chronic myocardial ischemia was induced via surgical place

Voxel-based morphometry demonstrates reduced grey matter density on brain MRI in patients with diabetic retinopathy.

AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: In addition to nephropathy, retinopathy and peripheral neuropathy, a microvascular complication of type 1 diabetes that may be tentatively referred to as 'diabetic encephalopathy' has gained increasing attention. There is growing evidence that lowered cognitive performance in patients with type 1 diabetes is related to chronic hyperglycaemia rather than recurrent episodes of severe hypoglycaemia, as previously speculated. The aim of our study was to use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to establish whether long-term hyperglycaemia, resulting in advanced retinopathy, contribute

Superior late patency of small-diameter Dacron grafts seeded with omental microvascular cells: an experimental study.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of omental microvascular cell seeding on the patency of small-diameter Dacron prostheses usable for coronary artery bypass grafting. In a canine carotid artery model, each dog (n = 64) received one seeded and one similar nonseeded Dacron prosthesis (internal diameter = 4 or 6 mm). Enzymatically harvested omental microvascular cells (omentum = 27.6 +/- 5.9 g [+/- the standard deviation]; range, 17 to 50 g) were seeded prior to implantation. The seeding density was 1.91 +/- 0.26 [+/- the standard error] x 10(6) cells/cm2 of graft surface. Di

Pericytes are involved in the pathogenesis of cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy.

OBJECTIVE: Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL), the most common inherited small-vessel disease, is associated with vascular aggregation of mutant Notch3 protein, dysfunction of cerebral vessels, and dementia. Pericytes, perivascular cells involved in microvascular function, express Notch3. Therefore, we hypothesize that these cells may play a role in the pathogenesis of CADASIL. METHODS: Two-, 7-, and 12-month-old CADASIL mutant mice (TgNotch3(R169C) ) and wild-type controls were examined regarding Notch3 aggregation in pericyte
