Perception and Reality of Robotic Microsurgery: A Cross-sectional Comparative User and Nonuser Survey Study.

BACKGROUND: With robotic microsurgical systems (RMSs) gaining increasing interest in clinical application, user feedback is crucial for their future development. Additionally, understanding the realistic advantages and limitations of RMSs among nonusers is crucial for broader clinical adoption and appropriate patient selection. This study aimed to assess user experiences on advantages, disadvantages, necessary improvements, and future developments of RMSs and compare it to the views of nonusers on the same aspects. METHODS: An international online survey was conducted among microsurgeons, ass

A Case Report of Sjögren's Syndrome and Rheumatoid Arthritis: The Role of Physiotherapy in Enhancing Quality of Life.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease with profound effects on joints and extra-articular organs. This case report explores the complex treatment approach for a 54-year-old female patient who is dealing with the dual diagnosis of RA and Sjogren's syndrome (SS). RA primarily involves joint inflammation and morning stiffness leading to significant disability, while SS, another autoimmune condition, manifests with autoantibodies and lymphocytic infiltration affecting exocrine glands. The patient presented with joint and low back pain, alongside reduced mobility, portraying a

A Case Report on CNS Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis in an Infant With Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever.

India is an endemic country for dengue. The incidence of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) with dengue in children has been well-reported. However, central nervous system (CNS) HLH associated with dengue has not been described in the literature yet. We hereby report a novel case of CNS HLH triggered by dengue infection. An eight-month-old, well-grown male infant with uneventful antenatal, perinatal, and neonatal history was admitted with a history of febrile illness associated with cough, cold, vomiting, and loose motions and one episode of hematochezia and hepatosplenomegaly on examina

Visual object categorisation in people with glaucoma.

PURPOSE: There is evidence that people with glaucoma exhibit difficulties with some complex visual tasks such as face recognition, motion perception and scene exploration. The purpose of this study was to determine whether glaucoma affects the ability to categorise briefly presented visual objects in central vision. METHODS: Visual categorisation performance of 14 people with glaucoma (primary open angle glaucoma and preperimetric) and 15 age-matched controls was measured, assessing both accuracy and response times. Grey level photographs of objects (size) were presented for 28 ms foveally. P

Optical coherence angiography: A review.

BACKGROUND: Retinal vascular diseases are one of the most common causes of blindness in the developed world. Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCT-A) is a new noninvasive method that uses several algorithms to detect blood movement. This enables the creation of high-resolution vascular images with contrast depicting motionless tissue. METHODS: This review presents the results of articles relevant to age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy (DR), and OCT-A. The OCT-A technique can successfully be used in the diagnosis of neovascularization, retinal vein occlusion (R

Outcome after total elbow arthroplasty: a retrospective study of 167 procedures performed from 1981 to 2008.

BACKGROUND: Total elbow arthroplasties (TEAs) are traditionally grouped into linked and unlinked design. The aim was to analyze the difference in clinical outcomes after TEA based on implant design and indication for surgery and to evaluate primary and revision TEAs. METHODS: A total of 167 TEAs (126 primary and 41 revision TEAs) in 141 patients were evaluated with patient-reported outcome measure by the Oxford Elbow Score (OES) and clinically assessed with the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS), range of motion (ROM), and standard radiographs. RESULTS: The mean follow-up was 10.5 years for

[Diagnostic and interventional radiology in pulmonary embolism].

The clinical picture of pulmonary embolism (PE) ist remarkably unspecific and one has to rely mainly on imaging techniques to obtain a reliable diagnosis. PE is not a primary disease but the complication of deep venous thrombosis (DVT), and thus there is a strong correlation between pulmonary embolism and venous thrombosis. Radiologic screening of these diseases is based on invasive and noninvasive tests. Chest X-ray has a low predictive value of 63% and helps mainly in ruling out other diagnoses such as pneumothorax or pneumonia. Chest computed tomography scanning with contrast may occasional

The magnocellular theory of developmental dyslexia.

Low literacy is termed 'developmental dyslexia' when reading is significantly behind that expected from the intelligence quotient (IQ) in the presence of other symptoms--incoordination, left-right confusions, poor sequencing--that characterize it as a neurological syndrome. 5-10% of children, particularly boys, are found to be dyslexic. Reading requires the acquisition of good orthographic skills for recognising the visual form of words which allows one to access their meaning directly. It also requires the development of good phonological skills for sounding out unfamiliar words using knowled

Ferroelectric Properties of MBE Grown BTO/STO:Nb Layer.

Barium titanate (BaTiO3, BTO) is an archetypal ferroelectric of broad technological relevance. Molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) offers compelling advantages for BTO thin film growth, such as superior crystalline quality and epitaxial integration with semiconductor substrates. However, the low oxygen partial pressures inherent to MBE environments, together with the challenges associated with precise stoichiometry control when using elemental sources, promote composition imbalances and oxygen vacancy formation and make MBE-grown BTO films significantly less documented than their pulsed laser deposit

Exact two-component Hamiltonians for relativistic quantum chemistry: Two-electron picture-change corrections made simple.

Based on self-consistent field (SCF) atomic mean-field (amf) quantities, we present two simple yet computationally efficient and numerically accurate matrix-algebraic approaches to correct both scalar-relativistic and spin-orbit two-electron picture-change effects (PCEs) arising within an exact two-component (X2C) Hamiltonian framework. Both approaches, dubbed amfX2C and e(xtended)amfX2C, allow us to uniquely tailor PCE corrections to mean-field models, viz. Hartree-Fock or Kohn-Sham DFT, in the latter case also avoiding the need for a point-wise calculation of exchange-correlation PCE correct

Theoretical investigation of the mechanism and dynamics of intramolecular coherent resonance energy transfer in soft molecules: a case study of dithia-anthracenophane.

A computational study is conducted on dithia-anthracenophane (DTA), for which there is experimental evidence for coherent resonance energy transfer dynamics, and on dimethylanthracene (DMA), a molecule representing the energy donor and the acceptor in DTA. Electronic excitation energies are calculated by configuration interaction singles (CIS) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) methods and are compared to experimental ones. Electronic coupling constants are calculated between two DMAs embedded into the ground-state structure of DTA employing methods based on transition densi

Kinetics of compensatory gait in persons with myelomeningocele.

This study investigated the kinetic strategy and compensatory mechanisms during self-ambulatory gait in children with lumbo-sacral myelomeningocele. Thirty-one children with mid-lumbar to low-sacral myelomeningocele who walked without aids and 21 control children were evaluated by three-dimensional gait analysis. Joint moments in all planes at the hip and knee and sagittal moments at the ankle, as well as joint power and work done at all three joints, were analyzed. Joint moment capacity lost due to plantarflexor and dorsiflexor weakness was provided instead by orthotic support, but other join

["Typical" and "less typical" sports injuries in the field of neurology].

In times of increasing "sparetime pathology" sequels of sports are getting a new meaning in medicine. Surgeons are mainly involved in this issue but it also contacts neurologists. We differentiate between direct sequels of sports and concomitant incidents of sports. Besides the typical head injuries we saw a number of atypical traumatic damages such as a hit by a golf ball, fall on the buttocks and the header in football. Discprotrusions are mainly understood as concomitant incidents at sports because in most cases one has to consider preexisting disc lesions. Though there are typical motions

Sharp and smooth state transitions during resting state brain dynamics.

Resting-state fMRI is routinely described in terms of a small set of recurring whole-brain states. Far less is known about what happens between them. Two pictures compete. In one, the brain toggles: it switches between qualitatively distinct regimes, and a transition is a discrete event. In the other, apparent states are convenient labels applied to a continuous trajectory, and transitions are mostly boundaries imposed by the analyst rather than events in the brain. We adjudicated between them with a multi-level Switching Linear Dynamical System fit to Human Connectome Project data ( N = 500 ;

Computational Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging Based on Time-Dependent Bloch NMR Flow Equation and Bessel Functions.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnetic field along with radio waves and a computer to produce highly detailed "slice-by-slice" pictures of virtually all internal structures of matter. The results enable physicians to examine parts of the body in minute detail and identify diseases in ways that are not possible with other techniques. For example, MRI is one of the few imaging tools that can see through bones, making it an excellent tool for examining the brain and other soft tissues. Pulsed-field gradient experiments provide a straightforward means of obtaining information on
