Fractures of hyoid bone are rare and most of the injuries cause by strangulation. Hyoid bone fractures are usually the result of direct trauma to the neck through manual strangulation or hanging, blunt trauma or from projectiles. But hyoid bone fracture caused by helmet strap has not been reported before. We present a young man wearing a helmet had an isolated hyoid bone fractures after a motorcycle-to-motorcycle accident. So, we should be more aware that helmet wearing riders are prone to have this kind of injury.

The aim of the study was to investigate neurological outcome in road traffic accidents (RTA) with spinal cord injury (SCI). The study was undertaken in National Spinal Unit of Special Medical Rehabilitation Hospital, in Varazdinske Toplice, Croatia. INTRODUCTION: This is very rare case report regarding late ventricular septal defect (VSD) following blunt trauma.
CASE REPORT: A 23-year-old motorcycle rider lost control and crashed to another motorcycle. He was transferred to emergency department by emergency medical services. Initial evaluation revealed some minor trauma which was managed, and he was discharged. There was a lately developed large apical VSD with delayed cardiopulmonary deterioration. The defect was recognized more than 10 days after accident, and repaired the day after.

Precise estimation of the relative risk of motorcyclists being involved in a fatal accident compared to car drivers is difficult. Simple estimates based on the proportions of licenced drivers or riders that are killed in a fatal accident are biased as they do not take into account the exposure to risk. In the present study, the incidence of severe brain injury was 600 percent higher for patients riding without a helmet and the incidence of all brain injuries was nearly twice as high in the nonhelmeted riders. All surviving patients with severe brain injury sustained residual long-term disability. The incidence of injury and death was much higher for motorcyclists than for occupants of automobiles involved in accidents. Riding a motorcycle is dangerous and riding without a helmet is fool-hardy. Helmets also protect the face, as facial fractures were twice as common in the nonhelmeted riders.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate temporal trends of characteristics of severe road traffic injuries in children and identify factors associated with mortality using a nationwide database in Japan.
