Radical mastoidectomy cavity myiasis caused by Wohlfahrtia magnifica.

In this article, a Wohlfahrtia magnifica otomyiasis case, a 31-year-old, non-mentally retarded patient who had undergone radical mastoidectomy previously is presented. Maggots in the radical mastoidectomy cavity were removed then topical treatment was applied. The maggots were identified as W. magnifica. In cases of myiasis, identification of larvae following direct extraction and application of preventative methods is essential.

Furuncular Cutaneous Myiasis in a Nontraveler: A Case Report.

Furuncular cutaneous myiasis is an uncommon cause of a furuncle-like subcutaneous lesion and may be mistaken for a bacterial skin infection. We report the case of a previously healthy 30-year-old Saudi woman who presented with a one-week history of a progressively enlarging lesion on the posterior aspect of the left upper thigh. The lesion was initially asymptomatic but subsequently developed localized pruritus, intermittent sharp pain, and surrounding ecchymosis. One day before presentation, a live larva spontaneously emerged through a central punctum after the patient noted discharge from th…

Urinary myiasis; a case report and literature review.

Urinary myiasis, a rare condition caused by the infestation of fly larvae in the urinary tract, poses diagnostic challenges due to its nonspecific symptoms and low prevalence. We report a 52-year-old woman with persistent dysuria, frequency despite multiple treatments for suspected infections. Cystoscopy revealed erythema and debris, but imaging and laboratory tests were unremarkable. A live larva was identified in urine analysis, confirming the diagnosis. Treatment involved improved hygiene and hydration. Prompt recognition and management is needed to prevent complications. Awareness of this …

[A case of intestinal myiasis in a bedridden elderly patient].

A 75-year-old man with type 2 diabetes and a history of previous empyema surgery was admitted to our hospital due to difficulty moving caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and dehydration. During the first two days of hospitalization, intestinal myiasis was diagnosed after maggots were found in his diapers. After the maggots disappeared, he developed a fever, prompting antibiotic therapy for a suspected secondary infection, resulting in clinical improvement. Despite thorough home cleaning, no flies or maggots were found, and the source of infection and the fly species remained unkno…

Furcuncular Myiasis of the Scalp Caused by Chrysomya bezziana.

We report a rare case of furuncular myiasis in a 7-year-old boy presenting with a discharging nodule over the scalp. The report details the clinical presentation, examination findings, and dermoscopic features of furuncular myiasis. To the best of our knowledge, Chrysomya bezziana has never been reported to cause furuncular myiasis. In vivo and ex vivo dermoscopy features help in diagnosis by obviating the need for microscopy.

Tracheostomy wound myiasis in a patient with hypoxic encephalopathy.

•Tracheostomy wound myiasis is rarely observed in unconscious and immobile patients.•Maggots in the vicinity of the tracheostomy site should be closely monitored.•Controlling myiasis in hospitals requires fly control and patient fluid management.

Investigation of pseudo-urogenital myiasis and errors in diagnosis.

Cases of genitourinary myiasis in humans caused by larvae of flies are reported from time to time. In our study, 11 patients, who reported worms in their urine and brought these worms to our laboratory, were investigated. The larvae were found to belong to the subfamily Psychodinae. By taking urine samples carefully from the patients, examining and evaluating their history, it was concluded that they did not actually have myiasis. We endeavour to describe the pitfalls in this diagnosis.

Case of multiple furuncular myiasis in Northeast Ethiopia.

Human myiasis is a neglected disease caused by parasitic infestation of the skin, cavities, and other body parts by larvae (maggots) of a wide variety of dipteran flies. Here, we present a case of multiple furuncular myiasis caused by Cordylobia anthropophaga in a 61-year-old woman from Northeast Ethiopia.

An Accidental Intestinal Myiasis Caused by Cochliomyia macellaria.

Intestinal myiasis is recognized as pseudomyiasis or accidental myiasis caused by dipteran fly larvae transmitted to humans via contaminated food or water. A case of intestinal myiasis acquired via contaminated food is reported in this case study. The patient is a 4-year-old boy who had frequent episodes of crampy abdominal pain and diarrhoea and the passage of many live worms at each time. As the child had the habit of eating ripe guava from his garden, the infection source was suggested as ripe guava, and the possibility was explored. All larvae collected from faeces and fruit were morpholog…
