Non-lymphoid mesenchymal neoplasms of salivary gland origin are rare, accounting for 1.9-5% of major salivary gland tumors. We describe the clinico-pathologic features of 18 cases of mesenchymal neoplasms of the major salivary glands experienced at Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Korea, from 1998 to 2004. Mesenchymal neoplasms accounted for 3.4% of the total of 524 major salivary gland tumors. The parotid gland was the preponderant site (15 cases). INTRODUCTION: Perineural invasion is regarded as a factor associated with local recurrence of pancreatic cancer.
AIM: To examine perineural invasion of pancreatic cancer pathologically and clinically.
METHODOLOGY: In 24 cases of surgically resected pancreatic cancer, correlations among the degree of perineural invasion, differentiation, interstitial connective tissue, lymph node metastasis, and survival rate were examined. Uterine sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of very rare tumors of mesenchymal origin, accounting for approximately 4% of malignant tumors of the uterus. These represent a heterogeneous group of neoplasms that are classified by histology in order of frequency as leiomyosarcoma, endometrial stromal sarcoma, and carcinosarcoma or mixed mullerian tumor. CONTEXT.—: The identification of paraganglia (PG) in the gallbladder (GB) is infrequent, and easily overlooked as it is not something routinely reported. Occasionally they may be misinterpreted as neoplastic cells, such as low-grade carcinomas, germ cell tumors, or because of their close resemblance to neuroendocrine cells, as low-grade neuroendocrine neoplasms.
OBJECTIVE.—: To evaluate the incidence and histological features of PG of the GB in patients that underwent cholecystectomy, and discuss the potential misinterpretation of these benign structures as clusters of neoplastic cells.

Many conditions result in chronic interstitial lung disease (ILD), being classified as fibrosing ILDs, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, connective tissue diseases, sarcoidosis, and fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis. To define the MR appearance of the vagina after hysterectomy, we reviewed the MR examinations of 43 women who had undergone hysterectomy for a variety of benign and malignant indications. In eight of the patients, MR examinations showed a mass lesion involving the vagina. The masses included four recurrent primary gynecologic malignant neoplasms (one endometrial, one ovarian, and two cervical carcinomas) and four primary vaginal carcinomas. The prostates of 1775 (614 control and 1161 experimental) 2-year-old F344 rats from 12 different carcinogen bioassays conducted by the Bioassay Program of the NCI and the NTP were evaluated histologically. The incidence of prostatic lesions including (atypical) hyperplastic foci, adenomas, and carcinomas was 6.8%. We report a case of retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma in a 52-year-old woman, who developed local recurrence, pulmonary, hepatic, peritoneal, pancreatic, subcutaneous and intramuscular metastases two years after surgical resection of the primary tumor. Metastasis to the pancreas, subcutaneous or muscular tissue is very rare; however, presence of a lesion in these locations in a known case of leiomyosarcoma might indicate a metastatic tumor deposit.

Phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor (PMT) has been elucidated as a cause of tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) associated with mesenchymal neoplasm. TIO is associated with the production of phosphatonins, such as fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), which participate in phosphate homeostasis. We used a stroma-supported culture method to study the prevalence and growth characteristics of malignant stem cells in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). In 51 of 108 B-lineage ALL samples, bone marrow-derived stroma not only inhibited apoptosis of ALL cells but also supported their proliferation in serum-free medium.
