The authors present a case study on the development of auditory hallucinations secondary to right temporal lobe damage. Surgical resection in the study patient was of the right superficial middle and inferior temporal gyri. Carbamazepine at a dosage of 800 mg daily was the most effective medication used. A multidisciplinary approach involving the neurosurgeon, psychiatrist, family, and rehabilitation specialist is necessary in managing the psychiatric sequelae of brain injury.

This is a transcript of a scientific conference on the subject of prenatal surgery for spina bifida. It represents the views of three patients, an obstetrician, a postnatal neurosurgeon, a neonatologist, a paediatric neurologist, two surgeons who practice open spina bifida foetal surgery, a fetoscopic surgeon and an obstetrician experienced in randomised trials and systematic reviews. Implications for current practice and recommendations for future research are also discussed in detail.

A case of giant osteoma of frontal sinus passing into anterior fossa of the skull, ethmoid and orbit at the right side in a 17-year-old boy was introduced. The osteoma has been surgically removed with neurosurgeon cooperation. Considering the large damage of bone, reconstruction of the frontal part by "Codubix" was done. Post-surgical course without complications and good cosmetic effect were obtained.

The skull base is the area where various cancerous and non-cancerous diseases occur and represents the intersection of several medical fields. A 28-year-old man presented with a case of spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) manifesting as a bilateral chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) without orthostatic headache. He developed life-threatening acute SDH as a complication of CSDH drainage. Neurosurgeons should be aware that SIH patients do not always present with orthostatic headache. Brain magnetic resonance imaging with gadolinium may be recommended for young adults with non-traumatic CSDH before drainage to exclude SIH, even if they do not present with orthostatic headache.

A 24-year-old male patient with refractory Tourette syndrome was treated with deep brain stimulation (DBS) and developed subsequent bilateral subcortical haematomas. Additional blood tests revealed abnormalities of plasma factor XIIIA and tryptophan levels, which may be associated with Tourette syndrome. Neurosurgeons who perform DBS surgery on patients with Tourette syndrome must be aware of possible disastrous complications resulting from factor XIIIA disorders of blood haemostasis. Routine screening for this condition is not typically performed prior to surgery in these patients.
