Involving practice nurse and other assistant clinical staff members in the management of low back pain: A qualitative interview study from Danish general practice.

OBJECTIVES: Involving practice nurse and other assistant clinical staff members in providing information and education to patients with low back pain at follow-up appointments may release more time and improve care in general practice. However, this requires a shift in the division of tasks, and general practitioners' barriers and facilitators for this are currently unknown. The objectives were to explore general practitioners' experiences and perceptions of including assistant clinical staff members in the management of low back pain. METHODS: This is a semi-structured interview study in Dan

The chlamydia knowledge, awareness and testing practices of Australian general practitioners and practice nurses: survey findings from the Australian chlamydia control effectiveness pilot (ACCEPt).

BACKGROUND: ACCEPt, a large cluster randomized control trial, aims to determine if annual testing for 16 to 29 year olds in general practice can reduce chlamydia prevalence. ACCEPt is the first trial investigating the potential role of practice nurses (PN) in chlamydia testing. To inform the design of the ACCEPt intervention, we aimed to determine the chlamydia knowledge, attitudes, and testing practices of participating general practitioners (GPs) and PNs. METHODS: GPs and PNs from 143 clinics recruited from 52 areas in 4 Australian states were asked to complete a survey at time of recruitme

See one, do one, teach one--is this still how it works? A comparison of the medical and nursing professions in the teaching of practical procedures.

A survey of 80 junior doctors and nurses was performed to compare the methods of teaching medical and nursing students in eight common practical procedures. Nurses were more likely to have received formal teaching and to be supervised when first performing a procedure. Some 42% percent of doctors felt inadequately trained to carry out a practical procedure safely when performing it alone for the first time compared with 7% of nurses. This study confirms that much of the training of doctors in practical procedures is still received on an informal basis, compared with that of nurses. It also rev

The effect of formative evaluation using "direct observation of procedural skills" (DOPS) method on the extent of learning practical skills among nursing students in the ICU.

BACKGROUND: Learning of clinical skills in the intensive care unit (ICU) is important for nursing students. Direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS)" is a modified objective method in the field of medical sciences, and we conducted this study with the aim of investigating the effect of evaluation using DOPS method on learning practical skills among nursing students in the ICU. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This semi-experimental study was conducted on 39 nursing students of the 7(th) semester (20 in the intervention group and 19 in the control group). First, the control group students spent th

From practice to academia: Specialist formation, stewardship and the sustainability of Australia's mental health nurse academic workforce.

Sustaining mental health capability in undergraduate nursing education requires an academic workforce able to teach, interpret and steward that knowledge over time. In Australia, however, the pathway from specialist mental health practice to academia is increasingly fragile: it is narrowed at multiple stages, weakly replenished, and vulnerable to further erosion when specialist expertise is valued but not structurally required. The problem extends beyond broader nurse academic shortages or individual reluctance to enter university work. It reflects the interaction of transition disincentives w

Development and psychometric validation of a knowledge-attitude-practice questionnaire on geriatric foot care among clinical nurses.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a Knowledge-Attitude-Practice (KAP) questionnaire on geriatric foot care for clinical nurses in China and to evaluate its reliability and validity. METHODS: The questionnaire was developed based on the Knowledge-Attitude-Practice (KAP) framework through a literature review, semi-structured interviews, and two rounds of Delphi expert consultation. After pilot testing, a cross-sectional survey using convenience sampling was conducted among 324 clinical nurses from two tertiary general hospitals in Guizhou Province and Chongqing Municipality, China. Nurses' Knowledge and Practices Regarding Delirium Management in Intensive Care Units in Cyprus: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Delirium is a frequent and serious complication in intensive care units (ICUs), associated with increased mortality, prolonged mechanical ventilation, extended length of stay, and long-term cognitive impairment. This study aimed to assess ICU nurses' knowledge and practices regarding delirium management in Cyprus and to identify predictors of knowledge. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among nurses working in adult ICUs in Cyprus. Data were collected using a structured self-administered questionnaire that included demographic characteristics, sedation and analgesia p

Knowledge, attitude, and practice of Chinese ICU nurses regarding ICU delirium: a nationwide cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Intensive care unit (ICU) delirium is highly prevalent and has profound impacts on patient outcomes. ICU nurses are ideally positioned to implement delirium prevention and management strategies. However, the effectiveness of these interventions is significantly influenced by nurses' knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding delirium. Currently, there is a lack of large-scale investigations into Chinese ICU nurses' knowledge, attitude, and practice status concerning ICU delirium. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the current status of knowledge, attitude, and prac

A nurse-led age-friendly education model to prevent stroke in older adults: Implications for policy and practice.

AIM: Evaluate the effectiveness of a nurse-led, age-friendly educational model based on the 4Ms framework in reducing stroke risk and promoting health-promoting behaviors among older adults. BACKGROUND: Stroke is a primary cause of disability and death globally, particularly among older adults. The Age-Friendly Health Systems (AFHS) 4Ms framework What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility offers a practical, person-centered approach to stroke prevention. Given the limited evidence from low- and middle-income countries, assessing this model's impact in resource-constrained contexts is c

Identifying stress-relevant events in everyday nursing practice using psychophysiological outcomes - an observational multimethod study.

BACKGROUND: Stressful working conditions contribute substantially to nurses' sickness absence and workforce shortages. However, prior research has largely focused on general job demands and resources, providing limited insight into which everyday work events are associated with acute stress responses. This study examined event-related observer-rated and physiological stress indicators during nurses' work using ecological momentary assessment combined with ambulatory heart rate variability (HRV) monitoring. METHODS: A non-interventional, multimethod field study was conducted with nurses from a
