Nursing attitudes towards organ donation, procurement, and transplantation.

This survey was carried out to examine the attitudes of nurses towards organ donation, transplantation, and procurement from the perspective of their nursing unit affiliation in a tertiary care center. Overall, 62% of nurses have already signed an organ donor card or driver's license. Those nurses willing to donate, compared with those not willing to donate, perceive renal transplants as cost effective (90% vs 38%, p less than 0.001) and successful (66% vs 47%, p less than 0.001, for estimated cadaver 1 year success rate). Nurses from some units (i.e., renal dialysis nurses), perceiving renal

Violence against psychiatric nurses: sensitive research as science and intervention.

Psychiatric nurses are frequent victims of workplace violence, much of which is perpetrated by patients. In a review of literature on prevalence, perpetrators, and impact of violence on psychiatric nurses, we note that workplace violence is a virtually normative experience for the nurse, rather than a rare occurrence. Verbal violence and sexual harassment, like physical violence, are common experiences; in contrast to physical violence, these are often initiated by co-workers. The emotional impact of violence on psychiatric nurses is studied less often than frequency of exposure; we discuss hy

Evaluating the effects of a nurse preceptorship programme.

Nurse preceptorship programmes have evolved as a means to ease the turmoil of transition from student nurse to staff nurse. In this era of economic retrenchment, it is possible that such programmes might be eliminated. Conversely, it is also possible that preceptorship programmes represent an important mechanism for recruitment and retention; issues that also pervade the contemporary health care arena. This study was conducted, therefore, to evaluate the transition process of new graduates who participated in a preceptorship programme. While the objective measures used in this investigation di

The relationship between transition shock and professional identity of nursing interns in China: a moderated mediation effect analysis.

BACKGROUND: Nursing interns often experience transition shock upon entering clinical practice, which may diminish their professional identity and potentially lead to future turnover. Self-efficacy and feedback-seeking behavior are positive psychological resources for coping with occupational stressors and may be associated with a stronger sense of professional identity. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between transition shock and professional identity among nursing interns and to examine the mediating role of feedback-seeking behavior and the moderating role of self-efficacy i

The perceptions and lived experiences of Indonesian nursing students in providing end-of-life care: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: End-of-life (EoL) care is a form of service provided to patients in the terminal phase and families to meet physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs so that patients can face death peacefully and with dignity. EoL care can be facilitated by medical personnel, but it is not uncommon for nursing students to be involved as well. Several factors influence nursing students' ability to provide EoL care to patients. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the nursing students' perceptions and experiences regarding the provision of EoL care during clinical placements. METHODS:

Proactive huddles to reduce missed nursing care; the mediating roles of personal situational awareness and rational coordination: A cluster randomized pre post intervention study.

BACKGROUND: Missed nursing care, defined as the failure to deliver essential patient care, has adverse effects on patients, nurses, and healthcare organizations. While efforts to reduce missed care exist, few interventions have been fully evaluated, and the mechanisms through which these interventions work remain poorly understood. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to develop, implement, and evaluate proactive huddles as a process to reduce missed nursing care in hospital inpatient wards. Additionally, the study examined the mediating role of personal situational awareness (cognitive mechanism) an

Development and pilot-testing of an evidence-based quality indicator set for home mechanical ventilation care: the OVER-BEAS project.

BACKGROUND: The number of patients depending on home mechanical ventilation (HMV) has increased substantially in Germany in recent years. These patients receive long-term care in different nursing facilities (nursing home, shared living community, private home). However, there are limited data available on the quality of care of HMV patients. The aim of the OVER-BEAS project was to identify quality indicators (QIs) of HMV care using an evidence-based approach. METHODS: A multidisciplinary board consisting of professionals and experts of HMV provision compiled a set of QIs between March and Se

Evaluating the effects of supplementing ward nurses on quality of newborn care in Kenyan neonatal units: protocol for a prospective workforce intervention study.

BACKGROUND: Data from High Income Countries have now linked low nurse staff to patient ratios to poor quality patient care. Adequately staffing hospitals is however still a challenge in resource-constrained Low-middle income countries (LMICs) and poor staff-to-patient ratios are largely taken as a norm. This in part relates to limited evidence on the relationship between staffing and quality of patient care in these settings and also an absence of research on benefits that might occur from improving hospital staff numbers in LMICs. This study will determine the effect on the quality of patient

Development of a COVID-19 alternate care site from ground zero: A nursing perspective.

The novel coronavirus disease SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) outbreak rapidly generated an unprecedented global, national, and state public health crisis with the need to rapidly develop alternate care sites (ACS) to care for COVID-19 patients within an overburdened health care system. A hospital care model ACS to increase the health care capacity, provide care for mild to moderately symptomatic patients, and offer local self-sustainment for a surge of patients was developed in Memphis, Tennessee located in Shelby County. We completed a temporary conversion of a large unused newspaper publication build

Readiness Assessment for AI in Nursing Care Projects: Multimethods Study.

BACKGROUND: Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) systems into nursing care often encounters obstacles stemming from unmet requirements and insufficient engagement with well-documented sociotechnical pitfalls. Readiness models offer a systematic way to evaluate project preparedness and to build the capabilities needed for successful artificial intelligence in nursing care (AINC) research, development, and implementation. As of yet, an evidence-based AI readiness assessment prioritizing AINC projects and accounting for their diversity in care settings is missing. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed
