Three years after receiving a Baerveldt tube implant for neovascular glaucoma, a 50-year-old man presented to the Wills Eye Hospital Glaucoma Service with pain and decreased vision in his left eye. On examination, a 4-0 nylon ripcord suture was seen to have migrated posteriorly through the pupil and in front of the intraocular lens. The distal end of the suture was not seen on dilated indirect ophthalmoscopic examination or by standard B-scan ultrasonography. Percutaneous repair of the ruptured tendo Achillis has a low rate of failure and negligible complications with the wound, but the sural nerve may be damaged. We describe a new technique which minimises the risk of injury to this nerve. The repair is carried out using three midline stab incisions over the posterior aspect of the tendon. In malaria endemic forested villages in Orissa State, India, a 3-year comparison of nylon nets treated with lambdacyhalothrin at 25 mg/m2, untreated nets, and no nets was carried out. Treated nets retained high insecticidal efficacy for more than 7 months. Nets washed after 3 months of use gave 98% kill in a bioassay with a 3-min exposure. In a prospective collaborative study, congenital ptosis was repaired using lyophilized allogeneic fascia lata as the suspension material for frontalis sling procedures. Over 50 cases of unilateral and bilateral ptosis procedures were performed by pediatric ophthalmologists during the initial study period. T lymphocytes from the peripheral blood of normal donors and patients with CLL were isolated by nylon wool filtration or E-rosette separation and tested for functional activities. Unseparated CLL lymphocytes showed a poor response to phytomitogens and to allogeneic cells. Subpopulations enriched in E-RFC showed an increased PHA- and a normal MLC-reactivity; the Con A responses, however, were markedly reduced in all experiments. Subpopulations which were T cell depleted showed no reactivity to all mitogens. Purified T cells from normal donors showed a decreased reactivity to PHA, Con A and PWM.

We describe a simple securing suture designed to prevent the accidental dislodgement of long-term, Dacron-cuffed tunneled central venous catheters during the interval before fibrous ingrowth fixes the cuff. We describe a case series of four eyes of four keratoconus patients with extruded intracorneal ring segments (ICRS) in whom donor corneal tissue was used to substitute for the extruded ICRS in an attempt to preserve its effect. In all patients, the extruded intracorneal ring was removed through the exposed area.
