This article is based upon my own experiences with metalworking fluids and the adverse health effects and medical conditions associated with exposure to metalworking fluids. I have researched and witnessed the benefits that can be achieved when metalworking fluids are properly maintained and managed. My experiences have provided insight into how a shop operates, including comprehension of the equipment used, processes, mist generating points, engineering controls currently being adopted, and procedures that are used to maintain metalworking fluids. PURPOSE: To evaluate intraocular pressure after instillation and eventual removal of silicone oil in patients undergoing pars plana vitrectomy combined with silicone oil endotamponade.
METHODS: The study included 198 patients who underwent pars plana vitrectomy with silicone oil endotamponade (5,000 centistoke viscosity), in whom silicone oil was removed and in whom follow-up after oil removal was at least 3 months. All patients were operated on by one of two surgeons.

The role of squalene in olive oil stability was studied for various concentrations and experimental conditions. No effect was found in induction periods of olive oil at elevated temperatures using the Rancimat apparatus. The role of olfaction on the preference of diets containing 20% medium-chain (MCT) or long-chain triacylglycerol (LCT) was investigated in the chicken. Olfactory bulbectomized, sham-operated (Sham) or intact (Intact) birds were offered a choice between LCT or MCT diet and food intake was measured over a short time period. Spills from oil production and processing result in soils being contaminated with oil and salt. The effect of NaCl on degradation of oil in a sandy-clay loam and a clay loam soil was determined. A 27-year-old man with a personality disorder, who did not have keratoconus previously, recently presented with a clinical picture resembling acute corneal hydrops OS three years after silicone oil injection for a complicated retinal detachment. The risk associated with silicone oil removal after complex vitreoretinal surgery is unclear. Therefore, a cohort of 87 consecutive cases of silicone oil removal were analyzed. Eyes with attached retina before silicone oil removal with a follow-up of at least 5 months were included into the study. Profound hypotony associated with loss of vision complicating bilateral chronic uveitis was managed in five consecutive patients with vitrectomy and silicone oil injection.
