The case presented here is typical of the localized fibrous mesotheliomas reviewed in the literature. It had a disastrous impact on an otherwise unremarkable pregnancy. There is no discussion in the literature of humeral factors related to localized fibrous mesotheliomas, but the fever, chills, and rheumatoid complaints in some patients may suggest such factors. Four cases of torsion of the spermatic cord in the neonatal period were examined. In the light of the literature, the authors present the diagnostic approach and their conclusions concerning therapy. They insist on the necessity of a complete examination in the labour room and on the use of transillumination. Orchidectomy must be examined in relation to the intensity of the lesions and of the earliness of the diagnosis. The fixation of the contralateral testicle is considered necessary but must involve an efficacious technique, combined with a turning up of the tunica vaginalis.

Correlation between tinnitus and audiometric loss, modification of tinnitus by medical or surgical treatment, allow to suspect the origin of tinnitus due to otospongiosis and to give the patient a practically always confirmed prognosis. Audiometric localization of tinnitus is essential, as it is the best clue to etiology, treatment and prognosis of otospongiosis tinnitus. As far as irreducible tinnitus are concerned, as anxiety is the most pejorative parameter, not discouraging the patient is very important.

A patient is described who has had a marked eosinophilia of unknown cause for 9 years in association with episodic facial swelling. Weekly blood counts for 8 months showed cyclical variations in eosinophils, neutrophils and monocytes (mean cycle length 35 d). Case-report of neonatal Marfan Syndrome with at birth the following observations: arachnodactyly, excessive length of arm, cardiac anomalies with hemodynamic troubles leading to death within 4 days. Anatomical data of the postmortem examination and histologic anomalies of the aorta confirm the diagnosis. No case of Marfan syndrome are to be found among forebearers. These characteristics underline the rarity, the gravity of the pronostic and the often sporadic appearance of the Marfan syndrome when revelated in the neonatal period.

Neonatal testicular torsion is usually extravaginal and occurs either in utero or in the first day of life before the testicular tunics are firmly attached to the scrotum. An unusual case is presented of testicular torsion in a 5-week-old male newborn whose delivery was approximately 4 weeks premature.

The findings and course in a 55-year-old Black man with thyrotoxic periodic paralysis are described. This disorder appears to have a strong predilection for Orientals (approximately 90% of reported cases) with occasional reports in Caucasians and only one previous description in a Black. HLA phenotyping of the reported patient demonstrated neither of the two genetic markers previously noted among Chinese with thyrotoxic periodic paralysis, indicating that these haplotypes do not serve as markers for the disorder in Blacks.

The significance of this syndrome in diagnosing the disease is outlined. Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is usually considered to be a neonatal disease, and is rarely described beyond the newborn period. During the last 15 years, 19 infants from the Negev region, Israel, with NEC were beyond the neonatal age group (range = 34-616 days, median = 90 days). Of this group only 16% were born prematurely, and only 16% had perinatal or neonatal pathology. Diarrhea and dehydration preceding NEC were common as was malnutrition. Bacteremia was detected in 42%. Pneumothorax is common and frequently life threatening in the newborn. Other air leaks although less common are often more difficult to treat. Anticipation by close clinical and electronic monitoring of all newborn babies with pulmonary problems allows earlier detection with a greater chance of satisfactory treatment. The long-term outlook is good except after severe pulmonary interstitial emphysema when considerable pulmonary damage usually occurs.
