Community Pharmacists' Management of Minor Ailments in Tripoli, Libya: An Exploratory Study of Practices, Prevalence, and Challenges.

Minor ailments, though self-limiting, are major contributors to global healthcare burdens. Community pharmacists (CPs) are well-positioned to manage these conditions, reducing unnecessary physician visits and healthcare costs. However, their role in Libya remains undocumented, with no formal guidelines or standardized practices. Therefore, this study assessed Libyan CPs' practices, the prevalence of minor ailments encountered, and the challenges faced in delivering these services. An exploratory, cross-sectional study was conducted using a validated questionnaire. Researchers visited 200 commu

Access to clinical data for direct oral anticoagulant prescriptions in community pharmacy and implications for medication optimisation: a mixed-methods study.

INTRODUCTION: Inappropriate direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) prescribing is a frequent cause of harm to patients. Pharmacists could play an important role in optimising prescribing, but they need access to relevant clinical data to do so. Little is known about community pharmacists' access to clinical data to assess the appropriateness of DOAC prescriptions. AIM: To investigate the availability of relevant clinical data for DOAC prescriptions and whether additionally requesting such data supports community pharmacists in assessing and optimising DOAC prescriptions. This study also explored be

Preventing Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic Syndrome Progression: Pharmacologic Approaches and Pharmacists' Contributions.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome is a condition reflecting the interactions among metabolic dysfunction, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and cardiovascular disease. It is driven by excess adipose tissue, insulin resistance, inflammation, and vascular and kidney dysfunction, which accelerates the development of hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes, and CKD. Early identification and intervention are critical to prevent progression to advanced cardiovascular and kidney disease; however, optimal interdisciplinary approaches to CKM management are not well established.

Quality indicators for pharmacist follow-up of diabetes mellitus: A RAND-modified Delphi method.

INTRODUCTION: Diabetes mellitus is a complex condition with high morbidity which requires a multidisciplinary approach including pharmacist follow-up. Within primary care medicine, quality indicators combined with audit and feedback are described as quality improvement actions which facilitate change. However, since existing guidelines regarding pharmaceutical care for people living with diabetes mellitus are not validated in Belgium, their recommendations cannot be translated into quality indicators without content validation. AIM: We aimed to define a set of validated and pharmaceutical rec

Interdisciplinary Role of Orthodontist in Screening and Managing Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Children and Adults.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can affect children and adults, and, if left untreated, could have a major impact on the general and overall well-being of the patient. Dental health care providers and orthodontists have an interdisciplinary role in screening patients at risk for OSA and make a referral to establish a definitive diagnosis by a sleep physician. The gold standard of diagnostic testing is polysomnography. The adeno-tonsillar hypertrophy is the primary cause of sleep apnea in children; therefore, adeno-tonsillectomy must be the first line of treatment. Post adeno-tonsillectomy, if th

A survey on systemic antibiotic prescription among dentists in Romandy.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant global health threat that arises from the excessive and incorrect use of antibiotics. As key players in the evolution of AMR, medical and dental practitioners are often questioned on their indications for antibiotic prescription during daily practice. The present survey aimed to evaluate self-reported practices regarding systemic antibiotic prescription among Swiss dentists in Romandy. An electronic questionnaire was sent to 331 dentists working in the French-speaking part of Switzerland and the responses were analyzed on a three-point Likert sca

Essentials of oral manifestations of leukemia for the dental practitioner.

Oral lesions may be the initial or only manifestation of leukemia and can be the key to early diagnosis. The varied nature of presenting signs and dentists' general lack of familiarity with oral presentations makes diagnosis challenging. This retrospective review reports a series of cases of leukemia to familiarize dentists with the oral manifestations and facilitate earlier diagnosis or recognition of relapse of this life-threatening disease. Following institutional review board approval, the University of Florida Oral Pathology Biopsy Service archive from 1994 to 2018 was queried for all ora

The Role of the Dental Surgeon in Controlling the Dissemination of COVID-19: A Literature Review.

As early as December 2019 in the province of Hubei, China, contamination of patients with pneumonia of an unknown etiology occurred. These patients presented with symptoms such as coughing, sore throat, malaise, diarrhea, high fever, and dyspnea. This emerging disease was named COVID-19 due to being part of the group of coronaviruses (CoVs) belonging to the subfamily Orthocoronavirinae, in the Coronaviridae family and in the Nidovirales order. COVID-19 is most commonly transmitted through speech, coughing, sneezing, and salivary sputum. Because dental professionals work closely with the oral c

Perinatal Nurses Reported to Boards of Nursing: Understanding the Facts.

Today's healthcare system is in a state of transformation, as changes in technology, diagnostic approaches, treatments, and levels of professional practice occur on a regular basis. Nurses continue to be the most trusted profession. What has not changed in clinical practice is the amount of responsibility and level of accountability. Therefore, nurses are morally, legally, and ethically responsible for nursing judgment and clinical-based actions covered under each state's Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association's core principles, and position statements as well as standard setting
