Due to the high physical and psychological demands of their work, musicians have a high risk of developing a range of health problems. The main causes of musculoskeletal disorders seen in instrumentalists are overuse, nerve compression and focal dystonia. The aim of this paper is to identify the musculoskeletal disorders that most frequently affect professional violinists and violists. 50 articles were read, of which 24 were used. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of the Ergonomic Analysis of Work (EAW) in the process of rehabilitating workers, insured by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) in Brazil, and to conduct a brief analysis of the instrument used by this body. Information obtained from EAW enabled the demand, the requirements of the activity and the skills needed to perform the tasks in the workplace to be determined, thus aiding the decision of the INSS as to rehabilitating the workers and their return to their jobs.

Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a great curiosity in medicine, the underlying pathophysiology of which remains under debate. When an episode occurs during the performance of a task requiring refined technical skills and an intense level of concentration such as a musical performance, it draws attention to the relationship between memory and performance. It also raises questions of access to procedural memory and other aspects of stored information. We encountered a renowned and highly proficient musician who was amnestic for a challenging concert.

Spinal cord concussion (SCC) is an uncommon injury resulting in transient quadriplegia. The pathophysiology of SCC has been related to underlying spinal canal stenosis in many cases, yet is not always identified. The authors present the case of a professional ice hockey player, without evidence of canal compromise, who sustained an SCC during a regulation game after being struck by a puck in the upper cervical spine. The unusual mechanism of injury is discussed along with a comprehensive review of the literature.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among health care professionals working at Hamad Medical Corporation in Doha, Qatar.
METHODS: Between 15th January 2007 and 15th January 2008, 340 healthy volunteers were included in this study. Each subject completed a diary to determine the duration of sunlight exposure, and vitamin D supplements. Serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD), parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, total protein, and albumin were obtained. BACKGROUND: The developing musculoskeletal system of a youth pitcher is substantially different from that of the adult professional pitcher, predisposing the younger players to a different set of injuries.

A 23-year-old male, a professional body builder, developed squeezing retrosternal chest pain following weight lifting. On examination, heart rate was 42 bpm and he had blood pressure of 70/50 mm Hg. An electrocardiogram was taken and showed inferior and right ventricular ST elevation myocardial infarction. Therefore, emergency coronary angiography was done and showed normal left coronaries. Right coronary artery angiogram revealed a dissection in the mid-part of the right coronary artery which was extended to the right ventricular branch.
