An attempt was made to establish Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) diagnostic criteria for the study of the reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome (RSDS). Five patients with hip and knee pain were studied. The radiographic pattern was "positive" only in two patients, while radionuclide studies showed increased activity in the painful joint in all; only in three cases Computed Tomography was performed. Blinking reflex studies were done in neurosurgical patients with processes in the posterior fossa and idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia. Alterations were found in space occupying, ischemic, and traumatic lesions of the trigemino-facial system. The analysis of the components of the blinking reflex can give hints to the site of the lesion and also to the prognosis of the underlying process.

The commonly used parameters of the stapedius reflex responses in the diagnosis of sensorineural hearing disorders are the reflex threshold level and the persistence of the reflex response on prolonged stimulation, i.e., the reflex decay test. Two cases are presented in which avoidance of dental work was caused by an overactive gag reflex rather than fear. Subjects were able to demonstrate increased control of gagging in the laboratory, and to complete a series of dental visits immediately after treatment and again at 6 or 12 month follow-up. Assessment and treatment strategies which were developed with these subjects are described.

Lowering of the intra-antral pressure caused enhanced movements of the corporal pouch in the dog stomach. Stimulation of the central end of vagal fibers supplying the antrum also augmented movements of both the antral pouch and corporal pouch. The findings suggest the existence of a gastro-gastric excitatory reflex which plays a role in gastric emptying.

The effect of diazepam (10 mg i.m. X 7 days) on crossed and uncrossed acoustic stapedius reflex parameters (threshold, amplitude and duration) has been studied in 7 normal hearing subjects. The results showed that diazepam has a not clinically significant damping effect on the threshold, the amplitude and, very often, the duration of both ipsilateral and contralateral acoustic stapedius reflexes.

By means of extratympanic phonometry, the middle ear muscular reflex activity in the startle reaction was measured in a control series, in patients with otosclerosis and in patients with operation cavaties without a functioning tensor tympani muscle.
