Development and formative usability evaluation of a user-centered mobile application for COPD self-management.

BackgroundChronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a globally burdensome chronic disease characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms and progressive airflow limitation, which severely impairs patients' quality of life and prognosis. Effective self-management is crucial for COPD management, as targeted self-management interventions have been shown to improve disease outcomes. Digital health technologies (DHTs) offer an innovative approach to address the challenges of traditional self-management and provide sustainable support for patients' long-term disease management. However, exis…

Use of a Bare Metal Dissection Stent to Manage Aortic Embolization of a Self-Expanding Valve.

BACKGROUND: This paper describes a case of prosthesis embolization during transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) that was managed with a novel percutaneous strategy. CASE SUMMARY: A 77-year-old man with severe trileaflet aortic valve stenosis underwent TAVR with a 29-mm Evolut FX. The valve embolized to the ascending aorta shortly after its release. TAVR was completed with a 23-mm SAPIEN 3 Ultra RESILIA, and a Zenith Dissection Endovascular Stent was deployed through the embolized Evolut FX, pinning the prosthesis to the aortic wall. The patient experienced no neurologic or aortic inju

Development of a self-management tool for individuals with seizure clusters: Trial design and methodological report.

BACKGROUND: Despite advances in anti-seizure medications (ASMs) for people with epilepsy (PWE), adverse outcomes, negative health events (NHEs), and breakthrough seizures remain common. Rescue medication (RM) can better manage repetitive seizures, but barriers to RM use persist. Self-management for PWE and a history of NHEs (SMART) is an evidence-based epilepsy self-management program aimed at reducing barriers and maximizing facilitators to self-care in high-risk PWE. METHODS: This 2-phase, ongoing clinical trial adapts SMART to integrate RM support for PWE with repetitive seizures. Phase 1,…
