Low Window Sinus Elevation Technique: Bone Gain and Postsurgical Discomfort. A Retrospective Case Series.

Recently, the Low Window technique was proposed to facilitate sinus augmentation and reduce postsurgical patient discomfort. It was shown to be both safe and effective. This case series evaluates the postsurgical discomfort of patients undergoing Low Window sinus augmentation, the bone gain achieved, and whether these factors correlate with the osteotomy area. Records of patients (n = 26) who underwent a sinus elevation using the Low Window approach (n = 34 interventions), followed by implant placement and prosthetic rehabilitation (n = 97 implants), were assessed retrospectively. The analyzed

Core Ossification of Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2-Loaded Collagenated Bone Mineral in the Sinus.

The objective of this study was to investigate in vitro release kinetics and ossification patterns of bone morphogenetic protein-2-soaked collagenated porcine bone mineral (BMP-2/CPBM) in rabbit sinuses. Release kinetics of BMP-2/CPBM was determined in vitro up to 56 days. In 16 rabbits, BMP-2/CPBM (BMP group) and CPBM alone (control group) were bilaterally grafted in both sinuses. After 4 (N = 8) and 12 (N = 8) weeks, radiographic and histologic analyses were performed. Approximately 40% of BMP-2 was released from CPBM during 3 days in vitro; release maintained at a reduced level until day 56

Distal Displacement of Maxillary Sinus Anterior Wall Versus Conventional Sinus Lift with Lateral Access: A 3-Year Retrospective Computerized Tomography Study.

BACKGROUND: The present study is designed to compare the outcomes of two sinus augmentation procedures: distal displacement of the anterior wall versus standard sinus lifting and grafting with a lateral window approach. METHODS: In the displacement group, a localized surgical fracture of the sinus floor achieved through an electromagnetic device results in the distal displacement of the anterior wall. In the filling group, sinus lifting (with lateral access) and grafting with particulate xenogeneic bone substitute was performed. Bone volume beneath the maxillary sinus was investigated with co
