The deceased was a man in his 70s who was found near a hunting trap set up close to a farmland. A male Hokkaido sika deer was trap and appeared to have attacked the man. Autopsy findings included lacerations, skin abrasions, and subcutaneous muscle hemorrhage on the left side of the man's body. The deepest wound was a laceration on the upper anterior chest. Further examination revealed a dislocation of the right sternoclavicular joint, separation at the sternal attachment of the right first rib, laceration on the anterior surface of the ascending aorta, and surrounding mediastinal hematoma. Ad…

OBJECTIVE: To discuss a case involving a patient with chronic chest pain, dyspnea, and anxiety. Although resistant to previous treatment regimens, the condition responded favorably to chiropractic manipulation of the costosternal articulations.
CLINICAL FEATURES: A 49-year-old man had chronic chest pain, dyspnea, and anxiety for over 4 months. The severity of the condition gradually progressed to the point of precluding the patient's active employment and most physical activity. Prior efforts to treat the condition had met with failure.
INTERVENTION AND OUTCOME: The patient received mechanic

Scapulothoracic dissociation is an infrequent injury with a potentially devastating outcome. The diagnosis is based on clinical and radiographic findings of forequarter disruption. These include massive soft tissue swelling of the shoulder, displacement of the scapula and neurovascular injuries (brachial plexus, subclavian artery and osseous-ligamentous injuries). The mechanism of injury appears to be the delivery of severe rotational force sheering the shoulder girdle from its chest wall attachments around the scapula, shoulder joint and at the clavicle. Early recognition of the entity and ag

Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare but potentially life-threatening infection requiring early recognition and immediate surgical management to prevent significant morbidity and mortality. We present a case of cervicothoracic necrotizing fasciitis arising from sternoclavicular (SC) septic arthritis requiring multidisciplinary management. A 47-year-old male with history of poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure, obesity, and tobacco use presented with progressive shoulder, neck and chest pain, dysphagia, odynophagia, and hoarseness. Laboratory evaluation demonstrated marked l

INTRODUCTION: There are reports which describe multiple lytic lesions seen on X-ray resulting from a non-tuberculous Mycobacterium skeletal … bacterium avium complex (MAC).
CASE REPORT: A 47-year-old female presented with a mass at her left sternoclavicular joint. Biopsy of the lesion showed acute and chronic inflammation suggesting osteomyelitis. The patient was on intravenousIV antibiotics with some improvement. After three 3 ½ and a half months, she was having knee pain and imaging showed another lesion a …

INTRODUCTION: Mycotic pseudoaneurysm has traditionally been repaired surgically with excision of the infected artery and revascularization via extra-anatomical or in situ bypass. There have been reports of endovascular repair for high-risk patients for formal surgical repair. We present a case of a patient with 3 large pseudoaneurysms arising from the right subclavian artery, descending thoracic aorta, and right popliteal artery treated with endovascular and hybrid intervention.
CASE: A 74-year-old male with remote history of coronary artery bypass graft and recent sternoclavicular joint absc…

A 65-year-old man was admitted because of bleeding from gastric ulcer. A massive deposition of AL lambda type amyloid proteins in the gastri … s performed because of uncontrollable bleeding. Sixteen months later, bone swelling occurred in the sternoclavicular joint and the 3rd rib. At that time, plasma cells with dysplasia and increasing levels of urine BJ protein were revealed. BJ type multiple myeloma was finally diagnosed. For remission induction, cyclo-VAMP chemotherapy was given in 3 courses. Decreased le …

BACKGROUND: Variants of the shoulder are commonly encountered and may occasionally be confused with pathological conditions. Our goal is to provide an overview of common normal variants of the shoulder's anatomical structures as well as any associated clinical or surgical relevance.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Following a literature search of common variants of the shoulder and supporting structures, this review provides a summary of variants related to the scapular body, acromion, glenoid, coracoid, labrum, long head biceps tendon, glenohumeral ligamentous complex, and rotator cuff.
RESULTS AND C

BACKGROUND: Acute sternoclavicular fractures and dislocations (SCFDs) are a rare but important injury in pediatric patients. SCFDs are either true dislocations, or more commonly, physeal fractures in children. The reduction is advised given the proximity to surrounding vascular structures, and some authors advocate for routine fixation given rates of redisplacement after closed reduction. The purpose of the current study was to provide validated long-term functional outcome data following open reduction and surgical fixation of pediatric SCFDs, as well as provide injury and demographic informa

This study aims to describe the epidemiological characteristics and the different anatomo-clinical entities of the fracture-separation of the medial clavicular epiphysis but also to relate the morphological and functional results of bloody reduction followed by osteosuture using non absorbable thread. Five boys and one girl (mean age 14 years) showed a closed and isolated shoulder girdle trauma. Clinical examination and medical imaging, especially CT scan, allowed the diagnosis of epiphyseal separation and to classify the degree of medial clavicular epiphysiseal ossification indicating the dir

Functional reconstruction of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a controversial topic among oral and maxillofacial surgeons; this controversy becomes more complicated when one dives into the dilemma of the ideal reconstructive modality. TMJ defects might result from various etiologies, such as blunt or penetrating traumatic injuries, advanced degenerative joint disease, or various pathologic conditions, including benign and malignant conditions, that might arise from the TMJ or adjacent tissues. Reconstruction of the TMJ is vital because of its essential function in mastication, articulation

BACKGROUND: The articles that have reported on the size at which a segmental defect of clavicular non-union requires bone grafting are scarc … nd based on Pearson tests. No complications, particularly acromioclavicular joint complications and sternoclavicular joint complications, were observed.
CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, we can suggest, from the findings of our study, that bone sclerosis resection and fixation using LCP without bone graft is effective for the treatment of clavicular non-union involving a gap …

BACKGROUND: The infraclavicular subclavian route is commonly used for insertion of permanent pacing leads. However, the subclavian vein rout … bcutaneous arc tunnel was made to pull the leads over the clavicle, which first arched close to the sternoclavicular joint and then curved to the inlet of the leads. The pacemaker was implanted in a right infraclavicular surgical pocket.
RESULTS: This technique was used in 44 patients. The venipuncture time of 4.4+/-1.2 min was faster with the supraclavicular route tha …

Omohyoid muscle is one of the infrahyoid muscles of the neck which consists of two bellies combined at an angle by an intermediate tendon. The inferior belly is a flat, narrow band, which inclines forwards and upwards in the lower part of the neck. It generally originates from the upper border of the scapula, medial to scapular notch. The present case showed unilateral anomalous attachment of the inferior belly of the omohyoid on the medial part of clavicle on left side. Inferior belly was 2.2cm lateral to left sternoclavicular joint with 3.2 and 1.5cm in length and breadth, innervated by ansa…
