PURPOSE: To investigate the outcomes of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for chronic diabetic traction macular detachment (CTMD).
METHODS: Ninety-six eyes that underwent PPV for CTMD of at least 6 months duration were retrospectively analyzed. Retinal reattachment rate, final vision, and prognostic factors for poor visual outcome were the main outcome measures.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of preoperative intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) (Avastin; Genentech, South San Francisco, CA) injection on the choice of endotamponade at the end of surgery in patients who underwent pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for diabetic tractional retinal detachment (DTRD).

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of face mask and miniscrew combined with Class III traction on Class III malocclusion maxillary deficiency in growing patients. 10 patients were treated with facemask and 10 other patients were treated by means of miniscrew and Class III traction. Pre- and post-treatment cephalometric data were analyzed and compared between the two groups. Both groups were successfully treated; however, IMPA increased in miniscrew group while it decreased in facemask group.

Pertrochanteric femur fracture is rare in patients with lower leg amputation. Using supracondylar traction takes full advantage of the extension table. Intraoperative insertion of a Steinmann pin for traction is a well-known low-risk procedure. In our opinion, this kind of extension is a simple procedure that carries no risks for postoperative prosthetic management in patients with lower leg amputation.

The internal mammary artery (IMA) is now used routinely along with saphenous vein for myocardial revascularization procedures. We have documented a particular form of non-perforating injury which may reduce blood flow during operation or may lead to early closure of the IMA bypass graft. Traction injury to the intima is well documented in other vessles but has not been previously reported in the IMA. We present a potentially disastrous example of traction injury to the IMA.

The level of final visual acuity results and the prognostic factors predictive of the level were analyzed in 360 eyes that had pars plana vitrectomy for diabetic traction retinal detachment of the macula.
