The classification of the bladder cancer based on Vision Transformers (ViT).

Bladder cancer is a prevalent malignancy with diverse subtypes, including invasive and non-invasive tissue. Accurate classification of these subtypes is crucial for personalized treatment and prognosis. In this paper, we present a comprehensive study on the classification of bladder cancer into into three classes, two of them are the malignant set as non invasive type and invasive type and one set is the normal bladder mucosa to be used as stander measurement for computer deep learning. We utilized a dataset containing histopathological images of bladder tissue samples, split into a training s

Fish: A Promising Screening Tool for Malignancy After Augmentation Cystoplasty?

INTRODUCTION: Malignancy after augmentation cystoplasty (AC) is reported up to 5.5 %. We assessed the use of urine fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) screening for bladder malignancy after AC. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this study, 36/98 patients under follow-up who have completed tenth year after ileal AC were included prospectively. Twenty-four (66.7 %) patients were tested with FISH initially and overall 28 (77.8 %) patients with conventional cytology (CC). Twenty-four (66.7 %) patients with FISH analysis also had cytology analysis. Blinded from the cytology results, 32 (88.9 %) patie

Transcriptional state dynamics lead to heterogeneity and adaptive tumor evolution in urothelial bladder carcinoma.

Intra-tumor heterogeneity contributes to treatment failure and poor survival in urothelial bladder carcinoma (UBC). Analyzing transcriptome from a UBC cohort, we report that intra-tumor transcriptomic heterogeneity indicates co-existence of tumor cells in epithelial and mesenchymal-like transcriptional states and bi-directional transition between them occurs within and between tumor subclones. We model spontaneous and reversible transition between these partially heritable states in cell lines and characterize their population dynamics. SMAD3, KLF4 and PPARG emerge as key regulatory markers of

Impact of bacillus Calmette-Guerin intravesical therapy on the diagnostic efficacy of The Paris System for Reporting Urinary Cytology in patients with high-grade bladder cancer.

BACKGROUND: In high-grade urothelial carcinoma (UC) of the bladder, bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) therapy is a therapeutic mainstay, and urinary cytology is recommended to detect recurrences. However, intravesical BCG instillations can induce morphologic changes in urothelial cells. The authors investigated the impact of BCG therapy on the efficacy of urinary cytology. METHODS: Matched pathology and cytology samples from patients undergoing transurethral resection of the bladder after BCG therapy were assessed. Cytology samples were graded according to The Paris System for Reporting Urinary

Late malignant change in an ileal conduit.

Around 3000 bowel segment transpositions are performed in the UK each year and although malignancy is well-recognized following ureterosigmoidostomy, reports of similar changes in ileal conduits are sparse. We report a case of ileal adenocarcinoma in a 67-year-old lady some 49 years after ileal conduit, demonstrating previously unassociated histopathological features similar to those seen in collagenous colitis.

Bladder wall lipoma.

Bladder wall lipoma is a rare finding that includes mature, well-encapsulated fatty tissue within the submucosa of the bladder wall. We present a case of a submucosal bladder wall lipoma that was discovered incidentally during a workup for microhematuria. This lesion was seen during cystoscopy and removed using cold cup biopsy forceps. This lipoma should be differentiated from pelvic lipomatosis in that it was confined to the submucosa of the bladder wall and did not cause compression of the pelvic viscera or its structures.

[The significance of "atypical metaplasia" in the follow-up of patients operated for bladder cancer].

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical usefulness of urinary cytology in the follow-up of patients who under-went surgery for bladder cancer. Particularly, the positive predictive value of urinary cytology and time elapsed between a positive test and the diagnosis of a cystoscopically confirmed bladder tumor are analyzed. METHODS: This study was carried out at the Cytological Laboratory Department of Experimental Medicine and Pathology, University La Sapienza, Rome. Among 230 cases studied since 1996, 30 male patients over 50 were examined (25 with a previous bladder c

[Bladder leiomyoma with extramural growth. An infrequent cause of pelvic pain].

OBJECTIVE: A case of extravesical leiomyoma that had been incidentally discovered in a patient presenting with unspecific pelvic pain is described. METHODS/RESULTS: A 51-year-old male patient consulted for unspecific pelvic pain. Patient evaluation disclosed a well-defined mass. A partial cystectomy was performed. Pathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of leiomyoma of the bladder. CONCLUSIONS: Mesenchymal tumors of the urinary bladder are rare and account for 1%-5% of all bladder tumors. Leiomyoma is the most common benign non-epithelial tumor. The symptoms caused by this tumor type i

Cystic urogenital anomalies in ferrets (Mustela putorius furo).

Single or multiple semispherical to bilobulated fluid-filled cystic structures of variable size were observed on the dorsal aspects of the urinary bladder of four male and two female ferrets (Mustela putorius furo). All ferrets had been neutered. On physical examination, the cysts were palpated as caudal abdominal masses. Three of the six ferrets presented with dysuria, and two ferrets had signs compatible with endocrine dysfunction. Adrenal cortical hyperplasia or neoplasia were observed in all of the five ferrets examined. Sex hormones assayed in one of the six ferrets revealed elevated leve

Report of a case with giant condyloma (Buschke-Löwenstein tumor) localized in the bladder.

Giant condyloma is a variation of condylomata acuminata caused by a sexually transmitted virus infection. Although it is a benign disease, it carries a risk of malignant transformation. Primary locations of giant condyloma are the perianal region and the external genitalia. Bladder involvement is rare. We report on a patient with multiple sclerosis in whom a giant condyloma developed in the bladder. Systemic immunosuppression for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and/or chronic cystitis as a result of neurogenic bladder dysfunction might be a risk factor for the development of giant condylom

An isolated plexiform neurofibroma of the bladder.

Plexiform neurofibroma of the bladder is rare, and is considered an expression of the syndrome of neurofibromatosis (von Recklinghausen's disease). We report a case of a vesical plexiform neurofibroma with no other apparent stigmas of the syndrome. The variable natural course of the disease is demonstrated.

[Primary adenocarcinoma of the bladder. Apropos of 5 cases].

The authors relate five cases of primary adenocarcinoma of the bladder that occurred between 1977 and 1983. Four tumours were located in the base and the lateral sides of the bladder, while the fifth was in the dome. Four tumours out of five were invading when diagnosis was done and were cured by a wide surgical cutting-away; the fifth which was a superficial one, was stopped by endoscopic resection. Bladder primary adenocarcinoma represent less than two percent of the whole epithelial tumours of this organ. They can be found under two specific topographic aspects: the first one, located in th

Argyrophil cells in the urachal epithelium and urachal adenocarcinoma.

Urachal adenocarcinoma, normal urachus, and urinary bladder were studied by histochemical methods and electron microscopy. Many argyrophil cells were found in urachal adenocarcinoma and urachal epithelium. Autofluorescence and immunoperoxidase examinations showed that the argyrophil cells possessed serotonin, glucagon, and secretin. Some of the carcinoma cells and urachal epithelial cells contained fairly large amount of mucosubstances. On the other hand, only a few argyrophil cells and very weakly PAS positive cells were observed in the urinary bladder mucosa. This study showed that there wer

Squamous metaplasia and invasive epidermoid carcinoma of bladder.

Invasive epidermoid carcinoma of the urinary bladder is described in a young woman with a long history of bladder infections and extensive squamous metaplasia without atypia. The literature on squamous metaplasia and leukoplakia progressing to epidermoid carcinoma of the chronic dysuria, bladder infections, and long histories of squamous metaplasia of the bladder should be followed up very closely. If epidermoid carcinoma of the bladder develops, they should undergo radical surgery.

International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) Consensus Conference on Current Issues in Bladder Cancer. Working Group 2: Grading of Mixed Grade, Invasive Urothelial Carcinoma Including Histologic Subtypes and Divergent Differentiations, and Non-Urothelial Carcinomas.

The 2022 International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) Consensus Conference on Urinary Bladder Cancer Working Group 2 was tasked to provide evidence-based proposals on the applications of grading in noninvasive urothelial carcinoma with mixed grades, invasive urothelial carcinoma including subtypes (variants) and divergent differentiations, and in pure non-urothelial carcinomas. Studies suggested that predominantly low-grade noninvasive papillary urothelial carcinoma with focal high-grade component has intermediate outcome between low- and high-grade tumors. However, no consensus was re

Immediate post-operative intravesical instillation of a single dose chemotherapy is not superior to continuous saline irrigation.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: To evaluate whether there is any difference between immediate postoperative instillation of intravesical chemotherapy (IPOIC) and continuous saline bladder irrigation (CSBI) in terms of bladder cancer (BC) recurrence in patients with primary low- or intermediate-risk non-muscle-invasive BC (NMIBC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Medical records of 1482 patients who underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumor between March 1994 and August 2020 were reviewed retrospectively. Patients were divided into two groups according to IPOIC and/or CSBI administration status [G

Osteosarcoma of the bladder: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Osteosarcoma arising from the bladder is extremely rare, with only 38 cases reported to our knowledge. It is often detected owing to hematuria, and is treated by surgery (for example, total cystectomy), radiation therapy, and chemotherapy; however, the prognosis is extremely poor. CASE PRESENTATION: An 83-year-old Japanese man underwent cystoscopy for postoperative follow-up of urothelial carcinoma of the bladder, which revealed a 2-cm nodular tumor on the right wall. He had a history of abdominal aortic aneurysm and hypertension, and had been smoking 15 cigarettes per day for 45
