An Adaptive Behavioral Intervention for Weight Loss Management: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Lifestyle interventions for weight loss are difficult to implement in clinical practice. Self-managed mobile health implementations without or with added support after unsuccessful weight loss attempts could offer effective population-level obesity management. OBJECTIVE: To test whether a wireless feedback system (WFS) yields noninferior weight loss vs WFS plus telephone coaching and whether participants who do not respond to initial treatment achieve greater weight loss with more vs less vigorous step-up interventions. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: In this noninferiority ra

Are current wireless monitoring systems capable of detecting adverse events in high-risk surgical patients? A descriptive study.

BACKGROUND: Adverse events are common in high-risk surgical patients, but early detection is difficult. Recent innovations have resulted in wireless and 'wearable' sensors, which may capture patient deterioration at an early stage, but little is known regarding their ability to timely detect events. The objective of this study is to describe the ability of currently available wireless sensors to detect adverse events in high-risk patients. METHODS: A descriptive analysis was performed of all vital signs trend data obtained during an observational comparison study of wearable sensors for vital

Design and simulation analysis of an octopus-inspired programmable magnetic soft robot.

Bioinspired soft robots leverage the efficient deformation mechanisms of living organisms to navigate complex environments. Magnetic actuation is a particularly promising modality for these designs due to its wireless control, rapid response, and biocompatibility. However, achieving sophisticated and controllable deformation remains a significant challenge. Inspired by the versatile deformation and stiffness-tuning capabilities of octopus tentacles, this study proposes a programmable magnetic soft robot (PMSR). The PMSR incorporates a truncated cone profile and an axisymmetric V-shaped notch s

Wearable molecularly imprinted polymer sweat testosterone sensor for noninvasive auxiliary early-stage polycystic ovary syndrome at rest.

Androgens, comparable in importance to estrogens, are essential for female reproductive and physiological health. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), often caused by elevated testosterone (the primary androgen in females) is characterized by reproductive dysfunction, infertility, and metabolic abnormalities. However, current testosterone assays remain invasive, technically complex, and insufficiently sensitive, limiting their utility for early and noninvasive PCOS screening. This study developed a wearable molecularly imprinted (MIP) electrochemical sensor for highly sensitive in situ sweat test

Access authentication via blockchain in space information network.

Space Information Network (SIN) has significant benefits of providing communication anywhere at any time. This feature offers an innovative way for conventional wireless customers to access enhanced internet services by using SIN. However, SIN's characteristics, such as naked links and maximum signal latency, make it difficult to design efficient security and routing protocols, etc. Similarly, existing SIN authentication techniques can't satisfy all of the essentials for secure communication, such as privacy leaks or rising authentication latency. The article aims to develop a novel blockchain

Wireless Measurements Using Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy to Monitor Fracture Healing.

There is an unmet need for improved, clinically relevant methods to longitudinally quantify bone healing during fracture care. Here we develop a smart bone plate to wirelessly monitor healing utilizing electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to provide real-time data on tissue composition within the fracture callus. To validate our technology, we created a 1-mm rabbit tibial defect and fixed the bone with a standard veterinary plate modified with a custom-designed housing that included two impedance sensors capable of wireless transmission. Impedance magnitude and phase measurements were trans

Ultra-flexible optoelectronic stimulator converts tissue-attenuated weak light into electrical signals for cardiac remodeling.

Precise spatiotemporal resolution and wireless multi-site modulation of excitable tissues via optoelectronics offers transformative potential for bioelectronic medicine, yet clinical translation is hindered by the rigidity of conventional silicon-based devices and their reduced performance under tissue-attenuated illumination, where the weak light reaching implants often fails to generate sufficient stimulation voltage. Here, we report an ultra-flexible, high-efficiency optoelectronic stimulator (OES) based on (Bi,Sb)2Se3, a semiconductor with crystal structure comprising parallel 1D chains th

Genotoxic Risks to Male Reproductive Health from Radiofrequency Radiation.

During modern era, mobile phones, televisions, microwaves, radio, and wireless devices, etc., have become an integral part of our daily lifestyle. All these technologies employ radiofrequency (RF) waves and everyone is exposed to them, since they are widespread in the environment. The increasing risk of male infertility is a growing concern to the human population. Excessive and long-term exposure to non-ionizing radiation may cause genetic health effects on the male reproductive system which could be a primitive factor to induce cancer risk. With respect to the concerned aspect, many possible

Striatal firing rate reflects head movement velocity.

Although the basal ganglia have long been implicated in the initiation of actions, their contribution to movement remains a matter of dispute. Using wireless multi-electrode recording and motion tracking, we examined the relationship between single-unit activity in the sensorimotor striatum and movement kinematics. We recorded single-unit activity from medium spiny projection neurons and fast-spiking interneurons while monitoring the movements of mice using motion tracking. In Experiment 1, we trained mice to generate movements reliably by water-depriving them and giving them periodic cued suc
