Two cases are presented of meningiomas following external cranial irradiation in which several features clearly indicate a causal relationship between radiotherapy and tumour development. In one patient multiple recurred meningioma was diagnosed 30 years after low-dose X-ray treatment of Tinea capitis; in the other patient the meningioma was diagnosed approximately 18 years after high-dose radiation therapy for astrocytoma. The purpose of the investigation was to test the use of alendronate in the therapy of children affected by chronic rheumatic diseases and symptomatic drug-induced osteoporosis. Two courses of alendronate were intravenously administered to four girls with vertebral fractures that were glucocorticoid induced. Improvement of back pain and bone mineral density increase evaluated by DXA and conventional spine X-rays were observed. Our study supports the ABD-induced improvement of the negative effects of long-term therapy on bone mineral density in children with chronic rheumatic diseases.

In 23 hypothyroid children--15 girls and 8 boys--all of them receiving continuous substitution therapy, skeletal maturity was evaluated by use of a specific point system. The examination of 106 X-rays of the left hand revealed a clear-cut carpal retardation more than that of RUS (radius, ulna, short bones) in both sexes. It could be demonstrated a higher stage of development for RUS than carpal bone maturity in relation to height, independent of duration of therapy. A closer correspondence between RUS development and height may be assumed.

Emphysematous cystitis is a rare disease with a high mortality rate. Generally elderly women with diabetes mellitus are affected. Diagnosis is made radiologically using plain abdominal X‑ray or computed tomography. The therapy includes urine drainage, antibiotic treatment and hyperglycaemic control to avoid progress of the infection and the development of complications. In the current report we present a case of a 79-year-old woman with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and an incidental diagnosis of emphysematous cystitis.

A woman with oculocutaneous Behçet disease developed primary tuberculosis while being treated with infliximab. A latent tuberculosis infection had been excluded before therapy. After more than 80 weeks of treatment, the patient complained of fevers, night sweats, shivering and vigorous cough. The chest x-ray showed miliary shadowing. Mycobacterium tuberculosis was identified. The history revealed recent contact to an individual with smear-positive tuberculosis. This constellation speaks in favor of a de novo tuberculosis infection with a fulminant course.

A 39-year old man was admitted to our hospital with a chest stab wound. The stab wound was approximately 3 cm long by 4 cm deep and located in the subxiphoid process area. Neither the pleura nor pericardium were involved. However, pneumopericardium was detected by posteroanterior chest x-ray and computed axial tomography. The patient was treated by conservative therapy, and the pneumopericardium spontaneously disappeared after 5 days. The patient was discharged on hospital day 7.

We describe t(8;16)(p11;p13) acute myeloid leukaemia (AML-M4) in a 12-year-old white male with a history of prenatal X-ray exposure. He had skin and bone involvement and some of the leukaemic blasts showed haemophagocytosis, characteristic features seen in t(8;16) AML. 20% of the reported cases of t(8;16)(p11;p13) AML are therapy-related and this case further supports the possible role of the ionizing radiation in the development of this disorder.

A 37-year-old woman who had developed diabetes insipidus after an abortion, requiring nasal substitution treatment with desmopressin (Minirin), began to suffer from fatigue, nocturnal sweating, cough and dyspnoea on exertion. Exogenous-allergic alveolitis was demonstrated by chest x-ray, lung function tests, blood gas analysis, broncho-alveolar lavage and transbronchial lung biopsy. After changing the treatment to an intramuscularly administered preparation and starting steroid therapy the clinical, radiological and lung function findings rapidly improved.

The paper deals with our experience with computed tomography in thoracal sarcoidosis. This method allows a good judgement of lymph nodes in mediastinum and statements, which stand out from conventional roentgenologic diagnostic. In recording of enlarged hilar lymph nodes these methods are equal. As a rule X-ray films and conventional tomography are for planning of therapy so much evident, that in our opinion it is not necessary to use computed tomography in routine diagnostic of sarcoidosis.
