Some have suggested that isolated polyethylene exchange in a well-fixed Harris-Galante II acetabular component (Zimmer, Warsaw, Ind) necessitates cementing the liner or complete revision because the locking mechanism is suboptimal. We present a radiographic follow-up of an uncemented, nonmodular, pure titanium-backed acetabular component at 6 to 12 years postimplantation. Between 1994 and 2000 at the 7th Division of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute a total of 123 total hip arthroplasties were implanted in 105 patients aged under 40 years (mean age 32 years). A study of 562 Anatomic Graduated Component (AGC) total knee arthroplasties that were performed in 402 patients between November 1986 and September 1990 is reported.
