A significant association of office diastolic blood pressure with low-level blood lead exposure was reported in a Brazilian adult population. Trypanosoma evansi, the causal agent of Surra, is a salivarian African trypanosoma introduced in America during the 15th century. In this study we report the first case of African trypanosomiasis in Uruguay. We describe clinical signs and the evolution of the disease on an Uruguayan Cimarron dog, as well as the isolation and molecular characterization of the Trypanosoma evansi reported strain. CASE SUMMARY: This report describes a 4-year-old cat with chronic intermittent haematochezia and faecal incontinence of 7 months' duration. Investigation revealed severe colonic multifocal mucosal ulcerations and infiltration of the mucosal lamina propria by large numbers of periodic acid-Schiff-positive macrophages. Fluorescence in situ hybridisation analysis of colonic biopsies revealed multifocal clusters of intracellular Escherichia coli. Treatment with fluoroquinolones for 6 weeks led to a complete resolution of clinical signs.

UNLABELLED: In this report, we describe a female patient with both prolactinoma and psychotic disorder who was successfully treated with aripiprazole, a partial dopamine 2 receptor agonist. During the follow-up of more than 10 years, her psychotic symptoms improved considerably, prolactin levels normalised and the size of the prolactinoma decreased. Isolated myeloid sarcoma is a rare presentation of acute myeloid leukemia. There are limited data available concerning the prognostic relevance and the right treatment strategy for this clinical scenario. The clinical relevance of prior malignancy (PM) in patients with essential thrombocythemia (ET) and polycythemia vera (PV) is largely unknown. We retrospectively evaluated 437 patients (ET, n=263; PV, n=174) treated at MD Anderson between 1960 and 2010. Patients with progressive heart failure often suffer from sleep-disordered breathing (SDB). Upon receiving cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), there is an improvement of cardiac function and central sleep apnea syndrome (CSA) with Cheyne-Stokes respiration; however, effects of CRT on obstructive sleep apnea syndrome seemed to be without clinical relevance.
