Mental health during the menopausal transition requires focused attention to ensure supportive experiences for women. This review presents the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) recommendations and summarizes the evidence, addressing 13 key questions framed by members of the FIGO Committee on Women at Menopausal Age. Although the literature on mental health during menopause is extensive, a gap exists in consolidated best practice recommendations. The FIGO committee members assessed the evidence quality and recommendation strength using a 5-point Likert scale. Over 70%

BACKGROUND: Neurologists have a significant challenge due to the progressive nature of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and its severe effects on cognitive function. Recent advances in neuroimage analysis have opened the door to novel machine-learning techniques that could greatly improve AD diagnosis, progression prediction, and detection.
NEW METHOD: In this research, we provide an enhanced hybrid deep learning approach for combined AD classification and segmentation. An enhanced inception-ResNet-V2 model is used for the multi-class classification of AD and an improved XceptionNet model is used to

Background Workflow interruptions are common in procedural medicine and may increase cognitive load, stress, and the risk of errors. While interruptions and flow disruptions have been studied in surgical settings, little is known about workflow interruptions in endoscopic environments. Objective evaluation of workflow interruptions requires a reliable measurement tool. This study aimed to develop a structured observation tool for recording workflow interruptions during endoscopic procedures and to evaluate its interrater reliability. Methods A structured tally-based observation tool for record

In recent years, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has come under significant criticism. Whereas critics across the political spectrum worry that CBT centers particular ideological perspectives that undermine its efficacy and harm patients, the details of these criticisms vary. Critics on the political right emphasize psychology's left-leaning ideological homogeneity, the risk of pathologizing ordinary experiences stemming from expanding definitions of harm, and the broader entrenchment of progressive narratives in clinical contexts. Critics on the political left focus on CBT's Western, indiv

BACKGROUND: Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an empirically-supported treatment for depression, although some patients respond well and others do not. The use of machine learning (ML) could potentially help to predict which patients may benefit most from CBT.
OBJECTIVES: To synthesise the results of CBT studies applying ML to predict depression treatment outcomes.
METHODS: Systematic searches were conducted across three databases and eligible studies were assessed for risk of bias. ML methods and predictor variables were summarised using a narrative synthesis. Predictive performance in

The therapeutic alliance is a well-established predictor of psychotherapy outcomes. With the advancement of digitization, guided internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) has demonstrated effectiveness. However, the conceptual framework of the digital therapeutic alliance (DTA) within ICBT remains conceptually underdeveloped. Data were collected from a guided ICBT program in China. We conducted virtual individual semi-structured in-depth interviews among a purposive sample of intervention recipients (young sexual minority men, n = 20), and all implementers (counselors and supervisors,

IntroductionDigital technologies have become integral to everyday life; however, older adults' engagement remains uneven. This study aimed to explore how older adults interpret digital technologies and make sense of their digital experiences, with particular attention to how these experiences relate to well-being in later life.MethodsThis qualitative study adopted a phenomenological orientation. Semi-structured, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 22 adults aged 65 and over in Türkiye. Participants were selected using maximum variation and snowball sampling strategies to ensure diversi

Working memory (WM), the transient storage and manipulation of information, is a cognitive function that can improve with training. Accumulating evidence suggests that sleep, particularly slow oscillations (SOs) that occur during nonrapid eye movement sleep, supports this improvement. Yet, how sleep and SOs in particular relate to neural processes supporting WM remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated how WM-related neural activity evolves across nocturnal sleep and how these changes relate to neural processing during SOs. Participants performed a WM task during fMRI before an

Cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) are small hemosiderin deposits visible on T2*-weighted MRI that have been associated with cerebrovascular pathology, cognitive decline, and increased stroke risk. While CMBs have been studied extensively in living populations, their relationship to neuropathology assessed at autopsy remains incompletely understood. Large-scale MRI-pathology studies are needed to clarify these associations, but manual annotation of CMBs on ex-vivo MRI is time-consuming and labor-intensive, creating a critical bottleneck. Automated detection of CMBs on ex-vivo MRI in community-based o

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of gambling among adolescents is rising, yet teachers often lack awareness of its associated risks. Special educational needs (SEN) students may experience increased vulnerability to gambling-related harms, although it remains unclear whether teachers recognise this.
METHODS: To explore this issue, 15 UK mainstream secondary school teachers were recruited through purposive sampling and participated in online semi-structured interviews exploring their perceptions of gambling behaviours among typically developing and SEN students. Interviews were audio-recorded, trans

Needle and blood-injection-injury phobia is commonly encountered in the perioperative setting. It can significantly disrupt operating room throughput, increase healthcare costs, cause delays in care, and lead to patient disengagement with the healthcare system. These phobias, which involve intense fear and anxiety about needles and blood, can increase procedural risks, requiring interventions such as anxiolysis, sedation, and alternative behavioral health interventions to manage patient distress. Blood-injection-injury phobia is notably prevalent in females, with most individuals developing it

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by amyloid-β (Aβ) accumulation, autophagic lysosomal pathway (ALP) dysfunction, mitochondrial abnormalities, and neuroinflammation. Physical exercise (PE) protects against AD, but its molecular mechanisms remain unclear. We hypothesize that PE-mediated upregulation of REV-ERBα and TFEB pathways mitigates AD-related dysfunctions. Acute effects of FK506, a calcineurin inhibitor, were assessed as a TFEB suppressor in mice subjected to aerobic exercise. Chronic treadmill training (8 weeks, 4 sessions/week) was performed in APP/PS1 mice to evaluate hippocam

Healthcare systems require the efficient development of expert performance. Several studies have explored the cognitive foundations of medical expert performance, especially in radiology. Studying at the brain level could provide further insight into specific mechanisms mediating medical expert performance. Researchers have recently begun to systematically employ neuroimaging in this field. Most studies focus on specific specializations rather than identifying shared neural substrates across disciplines. This systematic review and activation likelihood estimation (ALE) meta-analysis followed t
