Two siblings of African origin presented with multiple scaling patches and alopecia on the scalp four weeks after returning from a vacation in Eritrea. Direct KOH examination revealed fungal elements; Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Trichophyton terrestre were identified in the fungal culture. We discuss the putative pathogenic role of both microorganisms in causing disease. Although infection with Microsporum canis currently accounts for almost fifty percent of all cases of tinea capitis in Germany, other fungi have gained importance due to tourism and increasing migration.

We report an increase in GII.17 norovirus outbreaks and sporadic infections of acute gastroenteritis in Austria, Germany, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, England and the United States during the 2023/24 season. A decrease in GII.4 coincided with GII.17 prevalence increasing to between 17% and 64% of all GII detections. Overall, 84% of the GII.17 strains clustered closely with strains first reported in Romania in 2021 and two new sub-lineages were identified. Norovirus surveillance and molecular characterisation should be prioritised this winter.

Opioid maintenance treatment with methadone or buprenorphine is an established first-line treatment for opioid dependence. In addition to the novel weekly and monthly subcutaneously injectable buprenorphine depot CAM 2038 (Buvidal®), which is already available in Germany, two other long-acting buprenorphine formulations may be introduced in the near future: the monthly depot formulation RBP-6000 (Sublocade™) and a 6-month buprenorphine depot implant (Probuphine™). Basic pharmacological and clinical data of these three medications are given and possible clinical applications are discussed.

A 2-year-old Holstein Friesian bull with a penile tumour was referred to the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Foundation, Germany, where the tumour was resected and diagnosed as a fibropapilloma. Data on sexual abuse of minors can be obtained from official Police Crime Statistics and from dark field surveys. This article deals with the longitudinal development of the offense in the last 63 years in Germany.
