PURPOSE: Expandable metal stents have been shown to be effective in the management of malignant large-bowel obstruction. However, right colonic lesions account for less than 5% of all reported cases of colonic stenting. Airway complications affect 20% of all lung transplant recipients. Self-expandable metallic stents (SEMS) are one treatment option but their use in benign airway disorders is controversial. We studies the long-term safety of SEMS in lung transplant recipients. A comparative study of the usual static mercury drop electrode (SMDE) and the bismuth film electrode (BiFE) as applied to the analysis of metal complexation by thiol-rich peptides is done. We have prepared some transition and post-transition metal complexes derived from the pentadentate thiosemicarbazone ligand bis(4-N-ethylthiosemicarbazone)-2,6-diacetylpyridine H(2)L(Et), by both chemical and electrochemical procedures. The catalytic intermediate trans-[Ru((R)-BINAP)(H)2((R,R)-dpen)] (1) reacted on mixing with acetophenone in THF at -80 degrees C under approximately 2 atm H2 to generate the alkoxide trans-Ru((R)-BINAP)(H)((Ph)(Me)CHO)((R,R)-dpen) (6). Contrary to expectations, free Ru-amide and 1-phenylethanol were not the immediate products of this addition reaction. The addition reaction was reversible in THF. 2-Propanol prevents racemization of the alcohol product in THF solvent.

Metal compounds have been associated with male reproductive toxicity in vivo. The aim of the present study was to investigate the in vitro effects of 20 metal compounds using rabbit ejaculated spermatozoa as a study model for spermiotoxicity.
