The efficacy and safety of MARS-PD: Meridian activation remedy system for Parkinson's disease-A single-center, assessor and statistician-blinded, parallel-group randomized, controlled trial protocol.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) patients face a substantial unmet need for disease-modifying interventions. Potential approaches such as exercise and acupuncture have been investigated to slow PD progression. To address this unmet need, we developed a novel therapeutic approach that integrates acupuncture and exercise: the Meridian Activation Remedy System for PD patients (MARS-PD). Building upon promising outcomes observed in our preliminary pilot study, where MARS-PD exhibited a large clinically important difference on the Movement Disorder Society Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Sca

Chromatographic fingerprinting of ipratropium and fenoterol in their novel co-formulated inhaler treating major respiratory disorders; application to delivered dose uniformity testing along with greenness and whiteness assessment.

Ipratropium bromide (IPR) and fenoterol hydrobromide (FEN) have recently been combined in a promising inhaler to treat two prevalent inflammatory illnesses of the airways: bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The necessity for a single, sensitive, and trustworthy analytical approach to cover the diverse and necessary tests of in-vitro and in-vivo studies is greatly grown with the rising production of new fixed combinations. Two novel, selective and environmentally friendly LC techniques were developed in order to guarantee precise measurement of IPR and FEN in the

Investigating the Impact of Blunt Force Trauma: A Probabilistic Study of Behind Armor Blunt Trauma Risk.

Evaluating Behind Armor Blunt Trauma (BABT) is a critical step in preventing non-penetrating injuries in military personnel, which can result from the transfer of kinetic energy from projectiles impacting body armor. While the current NIJ Standard-0101.06 standard focuses on preventing excessive armor backface deformation, this standard does not account for the variability in impact location, thorax organ and tissue material properties, and injury thresholds in order to assess potential injury. To address this gap, Finite Element (FE) human body models (HBMs) have been employed to investigate

Deep learning-based automated bone age estimation for Saudi patients on hand radiograph images: a retrospective study.

PURPOSE: In pediatric medicine, precise estimation of bone age is essential for skeletal maturity evaluation, growth disorder diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention planning. Conventional techniques for determining bone age depend on radiologists' subjective judgments, which may lead to non-negligible differences in the estimated bone age. This study proposes a deep learning-based model utilizing a fully connected convolutional neural network(CNN) to predict bone age from left-hand radiographs. METHODS: The data set used in this study, consisting of 473 patients, was retrospectively retrieve

Interhemispheric inhibition and gait adaptation associations in people with multiple sclerosis.

BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease that damages the myelin sheath within the central nervous system. Axonal demyelination, particularly in the corpus callosum, impacts communication between the brain's hemispheres in persons with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). Changes in interhemispheric communication may impair gait coordination which is modulated by communication across the corpus callosum to excite and inhibit specific muscle groups. To further evaluate the functional role of interhemispheric communication in gait and mobility, this study assessed the ipsilateral sile

Prospective In Silico Evaluation of Cone-Beam Computed Tomography-Guided StereoTactic Adaptive Radiation Therapy (CT-STAR) for the Ablative Treatment of Ultracentral Thoracic Disease.

PURPOSE: We conducted a prospective, in silico study to evaluate the feasibility of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)-guided stereotactic adaptive radiation therapy (CT-STAR) for the treatment of ultracentral thoracic cancers (NCT04008537). We hypothesized that CT-STAR would reduce dose to organs at risk (OARs) compared with nonadaptive stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) while maintaining adequate tumor coverage. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Patients who were already receiving radiation therapy for ultracentral thoracic malignancies underwent 5 additional daily CBCTs on the ETHOS system

Reconsidering pregnancy screening policies for minors: patient-specific estimate of fetus and effective dose for potentially pregnant minors undergoing optimized dose CT of the pelvis.

BACKGROUND: Only verbal pregnancy screening is recommended for post-menarcheal females undergoing pelvic radiographs. In contrast, usually, a urine/serum pregnancy test for pelvic computed tomographic (CT) exams is required out of concern for higher radiation exposure. OBJECTIVE: To estimate patient-specific fetus absorbed dose to a potentially pregnant minor from an optimized dose CT of the pelvis for femoral version and surgical planning and provide evidence that such examinations of the pelvis can be performed with only verbal pregnancy screening. METHODS AND METHODS: A retrospective stud

Balance telerehabilitation and wearable technology for people with Parkinson's disease (TelePD trial).

BACKGROUND: Balance impairments, that lead to falls, are one of the main symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD). Telerehabilitation is becoming more common for people with PD; however, balance is particularly challenging to assess and treat virtually. The feasibility and efficacy of virtual assessment and virtual treatment of balance in people with PD are unknown. The present study protocol has three aims: I) to determine if a virtual balance and gait assessment (instrumented L-shape mobility test) with wearable sensors can predict a gold-standard, in-person clinical assessment of balance, the M

Association of Neighborhood-Level Marginalization With Health Care Use and Clinical Outcomes Following Hospital Discharge in Patients Who Underwent Coronary Catheterization for Acute Myocardial Infarction in a Single-Payer Health Care System.

BACKGROUND: Canadian data suggest that patients of lower socioeconomic status with acute myocardial infarction receive less beneficial therapy and have worse clinical outcomes, raising questions regarding care disparities even in universal health care systems. We assessed the contemporary association of marginalization with clinical outcomes and health services use. METHODS: Using clinical and administrative databases in Ontario, Canada, we conducted a population-based study of patients aged ≥65 years hospitalized for their first acute myocardial infarction between April 1, 2010 and March 1,

Hybrid 18F-Fluoroethyltyrosine PET and MRI with Perfusion to Distinguish Disease Progression from Treatment-Related Change in Malignant Brain Tumors: The Quest to Beat the Toughest Cases.

Conventional MRI has important limitations when assessing for progression of disease (POD) versus treatment-related changes (TRC) in patients with malignant brain tumors. We describe the observed impact and pitfalls of implementing 18F-fluoroethyltyrosine (18F-FET) perfusion PET/MRI into routine clinical practice. Methods: Through expanded-access investigational new drug use of 18F-FET, hybrid 18F-FET perfusion PET/MRI was performed during clinical management of 80 patients with World Health Organization central nervous system grade 3 or 4 gliomas or brain metastases of 6 tissue origins for wh

Echocardiographic Features Beyond Ejection Fraction and Associated Outcomes in Patients With Heart Failure With Mildly Reduced or Preserved Ejection Fraction.

BACKGROUND: Heart failure (HF) guidelines recommend assessment of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) to classify patients and guide therapy implementation. However, LVEF alone may be insufficient to adequately characterize patients with HF, especially those with mildly reduced or preserved LVEF. Recommendations on additional testing are lacking, and there are limited data on use of echocardiographic features beyond LVEF in patients with heart failure with mildly reduced or preserved LVEF. METHODS: In patients with HF with mildly reduced or preserved LVEF identified in a large US health
