Nine patients presented to our unit with extensive metastatic destruction of the proximal femur. The extent of bone loss precluded the use of standard methods of fixation. We undertook proximal femoral replacement as a palliative treatment to restore mobility and relieve pain. Six patients mobilized satisfactorily postoperatively. Three patients did not regain independent mobility and died within 4 weeks of surgery. The major complication was dislocation, which occurred in two patients. The mean postoperative survival was 8 months. We believe proximal femoral replacement is a useful palliative

This report evaluates the histopathologic alterations of a series of 17 patients with the CREST syndrome and relates these alterations to clinical and functional abnormalities. We present a clinical and histopathological study of 25 mucoceles of the oral cavity. Incidence was found to be greatest between age 10 and 20 (12 cases), with no significant differences in terms of sex. The lower lip was most frequently affected (17 cases), other locations being much less common. In 72% of cases there were etiological antecedents of traumatism. Since simplified methods have been generated to measure psychoacoustic tuning curves (PTC), they have proved to be useful in clinical workup. Nevertheless, further research is necessary for high level tuning. In the present study PTCs have been generated utilizing a discrete simultaneous masking tone-on-tone paradigm. Thresholds were determined using an adaptive up-down transformed procedure, thus obtaining normative data. We sought to determine the optimum surgical treatment of claw and hammer toes (except for the hallux) on the basis of the specific pathological anatomy of each type of deformity. During the investigation of ductographic findings in 200 patients with secretory disease of the breasts it was discovered that pathologically secreting lactiferous ducts were statistically predominantly localized in the retroareolar region and in the lower quadrates of the breasts. This prevalence does not correspond with the regions of the most voluminous portions of the mammary gland and with the most frequent localization of mammography manifestations of its fibroepithelial dysplasia.

Based on known histopathologic features, as well as clinical and etiopathogenic information, a classification of chronic gastritis is proposed. The following types are described: superficial gastritis, diffuse antral gastritis, postgastrectomy (reflux) gastritis, diffuse corporal atrophic gastritis, and multifocal atrophic gastritis.
