(ABSTRACTOne hundred and fifty five strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae were regrown from 216 freeze dried cultures originally isolated in Zimbabwe. The gonococci were from men (61 strains) and women (39 strains) attending a referral sexually transmitted diseases (STD) clinic, from women presenting for delivery at hospital with signs of sepsis (22 strains) or with an asymptomatic infection (16 strains), and from babies with ophthalmia neonatorum (17 strains). Leptospira interrogans serovar icterohaemorrhagiae strains Ictero No. I and RGA and serovar copenhageni strains M20, Shiromizu and Shibaura were examined by restriction endonuclease DNA analysis. The profitability of four saprophytic leptospira strains (Buenos Aires, Patoc 1, Rufino and São Paulo) as polyvalent antigen in the serodiagnosis of leptospirosis in water buffaloes was studied by the microscopic agglutination test. From 104 examined sera tested against 16 pathogenic leptospira serotypes, 52 were positives and 52 were negatives. The results led to the conclusion that from four studied strains, Buenos Aires strain showed the best results when utilized in screening tests for the serodiagnosis of leptospirosis in water buffaloes. The meningococcic meningitis cases which appeared in Ankara in 1973 had ceased by 1976. The monthly distribution of the cases conforms well with the distribution schemes of other countries, where the peak months were the late winter and the early spring months. A detailed study was made of lambs aged 5--7 months naturally infected with Pasteurella haemolytica biotype T. In addition to the well known features of such infections, previously unreported necrotic lesions of the tonsil, oesophagus, pharynx and adjacent areas were consistently seen. Large numbers of P. haemolytica were present in the tonsil, oesophageal lesions, lung, liver and spleen, but few or none in other tissues. Five virus strains with close serological relationship to the tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) complex have been isolated from Ixodes ricinus ticks. The ticks were collected in early June 1976 at three different locations in Sogn & Fjordane County, Norway.
