Socio-behavioral dysfunction in disorders of hypothalamic-pituitary involvement: The potential role of disease-induced oxytocin and vasopressin signaling deficits.

Disorders involving hypothalamic and pituitary (HPIT) structures-including craniopharyngioma, Langerhans cell histiocytosis, and intracranial germ cell tumors-can disrupt brain and endocrine function. An area of emerging clinical concern in patients with these disorders is the co-occurring socio-behavioral dysfunction that persists after standard hormone replacement therapy. Although the two neuropeptides most implicated in mammalian social functioning (oxytocin and arginine vasopressin) are of hypothalamic origin, little is known about how disease-induced damage to HPIT structures may disrupt

[Barriers and facilitators for access to PrEP by vulnerable populations in Brazil: the ImPrEP Stakeholders Study].

HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has been considered a fundamental strategy for controlling the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and since 2018 it has been the object of an implementation study (ImPrEP Stakeholders Study), conducted in Brazil, México, and Peru. A qualitative component of this study was developed with the objective of identifying the social and structural contexts that involve and organize the supply of PrEP services in Brazil, the stakeholders' subjectivities, and the different perceptions that can impact the strategy's implementation. The current article's focus was to analyze access by

Measuring the Dark Core of Personality in German: Psychometric Properties, Measurement Invariance, Predictive Validity, and Self-Other Agreement.

The Dark Factor of Personality (D)-the underlying disposition of aversive traits-has been shown to account for various ethically and socially aversive behaviors. Whereas previous findings support the reliability and validity of the original English item sets suggested to measure D, a thorough psychometric examination of their German translation is still pending. Using data from four different samples (total N > 33,000), this study comprehensively evaluates the German version of the D70, D35, and D16 with respect to (a) their factor structure, (b) measurement invariance across gender, (c) measu

Impact of COVID-19 prevention measures on health service quality, perceived value and user satisfaction. A structural equation modelling (SEM) approach.

OBJECTIVE: To explain using a structural equation model to patient satisfaction by analysing confidence in preventive measures against COVID-19 as an antecedent of this satisfaction and the effect that these measures have on the antecedents of service quality and perceived value. DESIGN: An observational cross-sectional study. SITE: Online survey was sent via social networks for recruiting citizens resident in Spain. PARTICIPANTS: The final sample consisted of 149 women and 122 men. The mean age of the participants was 36.73 years, all of whom were health service users. INTERVENTIONS: No in

Collective Healing: A Framework for Building Transformative Collaborations in Public Health.

The capacity of cross-sector collaboration to create meaningful change across social-ecological levels has long been understood in public health. But the ability of cross-sector collaboration to achieve systemic change around the structural determinants of health remains complicated. In 2021, now more than ever, we understand the imperative of strengthening the capacity of collaborative efforts to address the myriad structural health crises facing our communities, from police violence and mass incarceration to Jim Crow laws and redlining, to urban renewal and environmental injustice. Our propo

Ms L: a case of a reversible phenotypic and brain function equivalent of frontotemporal dementia.

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is second only to Alzheimer's disease in individuals younger than 65 years of age. Behavioral variant FTD (bvFTD) presents with nonspecific symptoms such as disinhibition, apathy, or emotional blunting. Although neuropsychological testing and structural neuroimaging are not very helpful in diagnosing bvFTD in its initial stages, newer quantitative structural methods and functional neuroimaging have better sensitivity and specificity. Ms L presented with blunted affect, disinhibition, impairments in insight, planning ability and social comportment, changed dietary

Specificity of autonomic arousal to DSM-IV panic disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder.

Although research on the hierarchical model of anxiety and depression has confirmed that autonomic arousability (AA) is more germane to panic disorder with or without agoraphobia (PD/A) than other DSM-IV anxiety and mood disorders, studies have not evaluated the differential relevance of AA to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This issue was addressed in multivariate analytic models using 295 outpatients with anxiety and mood disorders. Consistent with prediction, the presence of current DSM-IV PTSD and PD/A was significantly predictive of AA, even when other forms of anxiety disorder como

Research engagement of rare disease patient advocacy groups in Poland: between participation and constrained co-production.

BACKGROUND: Rare diseases (RDs) present complex challenges, including diagnostic uncertainty, limited treatment options, and fragmented research and care systems. These constraints contribute to inequities in access to care, information, and research participation among patients and caregivers across social and institutional contexts. In this setting, rare disease patient advocacy groups (RDPAGs) have emerged as key actors, not only providing support to patients and caregivers but also increasingly engaging in research. However, empirical evidence regarding their research engagement and organi

Self-management experiences of vaginal toxicities among patients undergoing radical radiotherapy for cervical cancer: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is a common gynecologic malignancy, and radiotherapy often induces vaginal toxicities such as vaginitis and stenosis, affecting patients’ physical and psychological well-being. Current research focuses mainly on clinical parameters, with limited attention to patients’ self-management experiences. This study explores their self-management practices to inform targeted nursing strategies. OBJECTIVE: To explore the self-management experiences and existing challenges related to vaginal toxicities among patients undergoing radical radiotherapy for cervical cancer, with th

The impact of family capital differences on music majors' academic achievement: an empirical analysis based on structural equation model.

This study examines how family capital differences affect music majors' academic achievement, an underexplored educational equity issue. Using Bourdieu's and Bandura's theories, we built a multi-path mediation structural equation model with three family capitals (economic, cultural, social) as predictors, learning engagement and self-efficacy as parallel mediators, and multidimensional achievement as outcome. Based on 952 music undergraduates from eight Chinese universities across eastern, central, and western regions, we used CFA, bootstrap mediation, and multigroup path comparison including

A quantitative study on female sex workers' mental health in Germany.

INTRODUCTION: Sex workers provide sexual services in exchange for monetary compensation, encompassing a range of activities such as escorting, pornography and street-based or online sex work. Individuals doing sex work are frequently referred to as a vulnerable group when it comes to their mental health. Despite the legality of sex work in Germany, there are significant risk factors associated with negative impact on the mental health, such as stigmatization, precarious working conditions and experienced violence. The aim of this study was to examine specific sex work settings. It was hypothes

Transmission Dominance Under Random-Contact Intensification in Epidemic Networks: Multilayer Contact Network Simulation Study.

BACKGROUND: In the context of COVID-19, infection spread through human contact networks remains a major public health challenge. Beyond cumulative infections and deaths, it is necessary to understand which contacts matter most, and which population segments contribute most to transmission under different social conditions. In multilayer urban networks with community structure, routine contacts coexist with incidental encounters, and it remains unclear whether incidental encounters can alter epidemic burden and the main contributors to transmission when per-layer contact caps and routine-contac

Is early-morning class exposure associated with lower positive mental health among university students? Conditional associations and heterogeneous profiles.

BACKGROUND: University is a period of heightened vulnerability for student mental health, yet institutional schedules remain understudied as a modifiable determinant. Drawing on social zeitgeber theory, we tested whether early-morning class exposure is associated with positive mental health through social jetlag and emotion-regulation difficulties, whether bedtime procrastination conditions this association, and whether students' risk configurations are heterogeneous. METHODS: Data were obtained from 1,437 university students in Sichuan and Yunnan, China. Early-morning class exposure was oper

Exploring the motives for drinking less alcohol and attitudes towards abstinence in individuals with low-to-moderate alcohol use - a mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: Extensive evidence links alcohol to increased morbidity and mortality, leading to recommendations to reduce drinking, regardless of the amount consumed. We aimed to explore the motives for (not) drinking alcohol in low-to-moderate drinkers because of their relevance for prevention strategies. METHODS: Using a mixed-methods design, we first analyzed longitudinal self-report data from 540 low-to-moderate drinkers from general population in Germany who participated in a randomized controlled trial. Over a period of three years, trajectories of alcohol use were examined using latent c

From food to alcohol: exploring psychosocial drivers of post-bariatric alcohol use.

BACKGROUND: Bariatric surgery is an effective intervention for severe obesity; yet emerging evidence indicates a clinically significant risk of problematic alcohol use post-operatively, particularly among women and those undergoing Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. While physiological mechanisms are well documented, , limited qualitative research explores the psychosocial drivers behind this shift. METHODS: Using reflexive thematic analysis, we examined semi-structured interviews with 11 UK-based women (aged 33-63) who underwent bariatric surgery (2012-2021) and subsequently developed problematic alc

Effects of a group intervention on social isolation in patient-spousal caregiver dyads coping with colorectal cancer: A randomized controlled trial.

PURPOSE: To validate the efficacy of a previously developed couple-based group intervention in addressing social isolation (SI) among couples coping with colorectal cancer (CRC), building on prior feasibility evidence. METHODS: A single-site randomized controlled trial was conducted at a tertiary hospital in Wuxi, China, and enrolled 170 CRC patient-spousal caregiver dyads. Dyads were randomized to the intervention group (N = 85, standard care plus 6-week couple-based group intervention: 1 in-person plus 5 online sessions) or control group (N = 85, standard care only). Adaptation in emergent adulthood for persons with prior experience in residential youth care in Norway: an observational study.

BACKGROUND: The adversities experienced by youth placed in Residential Youth Care (RYC) challenge their development through adolescence and into adulthood. Yet, we know little about how they adapt during the transition into emergent adulthood. Here, we examine their socioeconomic and civil status and psychosocial functioning, how they compare with peers, and whether there are systematic variations across sex and age. METHODS: Ten years after the initial assessment of 400 12-20-year-olds residing in RYC in Norway, we conducted a follow-up assessment when they were ages 22-30, enrolling 157 (52
