[The microbial pattern of the catheter exit-site infection in peritoneal dialysis: A non-diphtheria Corynebacteria emergence?].

BACKGROUND: A prospective cohort study was undertaken to compare the rates of the infecting microorganisms of the peritoneal catheter exit-site in three periods of the prophylactic protocol of a peritoneal dialysis program. All patients treated for more than one month on Peritoneal Dialysis were included: Fourty-eight in Period 1 (P1), 48 in Period 2 (P2), and 54 in Period 3 (P3). Each period was of 3 years. Spectrum of 2,836 cases of invasive bacterial or fungal infections in children: results of prospective nationwide five-year surveillance in Finland. Finnish Pediatric Invasive Infection Study Group.

In a prospective nationwide laboratory-based surveillance study of all invasive bacterial and fungal infections among children < 16 years of age, 2,836 clinical cases were registered during the 5-year period 1985-1989. Of these cases, 136 were polymicrobial. During the study period, nationwide administration of Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccine reduced the incidence rates of invasive infection caused by this organism. The most common clinical diagnosis (48% of cases) was bacteremia without an identified focus of infection. The age-specific annual incidence rates of all invasive i

[Nosocomial infections in an urological department. Incidence and etiological factors].

The authors report a prospective study with active request of data for nosocomial infections (NI) in an urological department during six months. From 453 patients, 43 developed an NI (incidence = 9.5%): urinary tract infections (53.5%), bloodstream infections (16.3%), lower respiratory tract infections (7%), surgical wound infections (2.3%) and sepsis syndrome (20.9%). For microorganisms, most often Pseudomonas aeruginosa (22.5%) and E. coli (20%) were encountered. Other microorganisms were the next-ones: Staphylococcus aureus (15%), Staphylococcus epidermidis (7.5%), Acinetobacter baumanii (7
