We performed a clinical and radiological analysis to evaluate the significance of the stem position of cementless CLS components with respect to function and survival. We used patient material from a multi-center study of 3,732 CLS stems with a mean follow-up of 43 months (range: 12-142 months). The clinical outcome was assessed using Merle D'Aubigné Scores and stem alignment was determined as the deviation of the longitudinal stem axis from the longitudinal femur axis. We found no correlation between stem alignment and function, survival, implant migration or periprosthetic radiolucent lines.

This article describes indications for treatment with telescopic restorations on patients with periodontally and endodontically compromised dentitions that require splinting, with special emphasis on treatment that restores the entire dental arch. It was examined whether the tannin-fluoride preparation (HY preparation), which might have a caries-reductive, plaque inhibiting and astringent action, could reduce the incidence of gingival inflammation around abutment teeth. Histologic examination of 72 femoral heads retrieved at revision of resurfacing arthroplasties was performed to determine the possible role of generalized osteonecrosis caused by avascular necrosis (AVN) in early loosening of the femoral components. A survey of dermatomycoses was carried out amongst industrial workers in three different factories during the period 1987-1988. A total of 194 workers were screened, out of which 54 proved to be mycologically positive by microscopy and/or culture. Incidence was apparently highest amongst workers in a cement factory (Calcemco, 33.3%) followed by those in a wood factory (Seromwood, 30.8%) and a rubber factory (CREL, 26.2%). Seventy Freeman-Swanson ICLH total-knee arthroplasties were performed in fifty-eight patients. Five major prosthetic problems and complications were encountered: (1) instability, (2) abnormal prosthetic insertion, (3) prosthetic loosening, (4) patellofemoral abnormalities, and (5) cement debris.
