Case report: Treatment of a rare primary cerebellum histiocytic sarcoma with surgery and radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Histiocytic sarcoma originates in various tissues, including the skin, lymph nodes, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, bone marrow, and central nervous system. Primary central nervous system histiocytic sarcoma (PCNSHS) is exceptionally rare, known for its aggressive behavior and poor prognosis. This report describes a case of PCNSHS in the cerebellum treated with surgery and radiotherapy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 30-year-old woman presented with progressive dizziness and headache. Magnetic resonance imaging scans showed right cerebellar neoplastic lesions approximately 3.6 cm*3.0 cm with…

Pseudomonas Labyrinthitis Complicating Acute Otitis Media: Case Report.

Background: Bacterial labyrinthitis has been rarely described. Pseudomonas incrimination is even exceptional. Herein, we present a case of p … eroid treatment. She also benefited of vestibular rehabilitation and hyperbaric oxygenotherapy. The dizziness subsided, but the deafness persisted. Conclusion: Labyrinthitis is increasingly rare in the era of antibiotic therapy. P. aeruginosa is an exceptional germ in this context. Adult Onset Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis: A Case Report.

Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a rare autoimmune demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system that can mimic other neurological diseases, such as multiple sclerosis. ADEM is thought to manifest in the presence of environmental triggers, namely viral or bacterial infections, with multiple simultaneous neurological deficits, frequently accompanied by encephalopathy. Here, we report the case of a 49-year-old female patient who presented in the emergency department with encephalopathy, right-side muscle weakness, dizziness, vertigo, ataxia, and postural imbalance, preceded …

Styloid Jugular Nutcracker: The Possible Role of the Styloid Process Spatial Orientation-A Preliminary Morphometric Computed Study.

Styloid Jugular Nutcracker (SJN, also known as Eagle Jugular Syndrome EJS) derives from a jugular stenosis caused by an abnormal styloid process, compressing the vessel in its superior portion (J3) against the C1 anterior arch. It could be considered a venous vascular variant of Eagle Syndrome (ES). Main clinical features of this ES variant are headache, pulsatile tinnitus and dizziness, possibly related to venous hypertension and impaired cerebral parenchyma drainage. In our opinion, conceptually, it is not the absolute length of the styloid bone that defines its abnormality, but its spatial …

Rhino orbital cerebral mucormycosis: A life-threatening complication of coronavirus diseases 2019 in an uncontrolled diabetic patient.

Mucormycosis is a progressive and life-threatening disease that has been increasingly reported in patients infected by coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19). We describe a case of rhino-orbital mucormycosis with central nervous system involvement resulting in bilateral blindness and intracranial extension in a patient with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus (DM) and mild COVID-19 infection. A 35-year-old obese male, recently diagnosed with DM, presented to the emergency department suffering from dizziness, headache, speech difficulty, and facial weakness. His glycosylated hemoglobin was 10.4% and h…

A systematic review of heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback treatment following traumatic brain injury (TBI).

OBJECTIVE: Autonomic nervous system dysregulation is a common consequence of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Heart rate variability (HRV) is a … uding improvements in cognitive and emotional functioning, and physical symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and sleep problems. CONCLUSION: The literature on HRV biofeedback for TBI is promising, but in its infancy; effectiveness is unclear due to poor-to-fair study quality, and potential publication bias (all studies reported positive results).

Pregnancy complicated by juxtaglomerular cell tumor of the kidney: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Juxtaglomerular cell tumor (JGCT) of the kidney, also known as reninoma, is a rare renal tumor that typically clinically manifests as hypertension, hypokalemia, high renin, and high aldosterone. It is a cause of secondary hypertension. Pregnancy with JGCT is rarer and easily misdiagnosed as pregnancy-induced hypertension, thus affecting treatment. CASE SUMMARY: A 28-year-old woman presented in early pregnancy with hypertension (blood pressure of 229/159 mmHg), nausea, and occasional dizziness and headache. The patient was diagnosed with pregnancy-induced hypertension, and no relie…

Preoperative embolization and microsurgical resection of a cerebellar hemangioblastoma: embolization goals and technical nuances of the approaches. Illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Resection remains the optimal treatment for hemangioblastomas, highly vascular tumors commonly located in the cerebellum or spinal cord. Preoperative embolization can be used with caution to reduce intraoperative blood loss and promote gross-total resection while reducing neurological morbidity. OBSERVATIONS: The authors report a case of a 44-year-old male who presented with worsening dizziness, gait imbalance, and diplopia. Imaging revealed a large vascular cerebellar mass with brainstem compression and hydrocephalus, concerning for hemangioblastoma. The patient underwent preoper…

Efficacy and safety of zuranolone for the treatment of depression: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) and postpartum depression (PPD) are common and burdensome conditions. This study aims to evaluate the effica … n of MDD patients achieving HAM-D remission at 42/43 days. Adverse events (AEs) such as somnolence, dizziness, and sedation were linked to zuranolone, with a higher but not statistically significant rate of discontinuation due to AEs in the zuranolone group. Overall, our findings support the rapid antidepressant effects of zuranolone in MDD and PPD, along w …

Long-term central nervous system (CNS) consequences of COVID-19 in children.

INTRODUCTION: Neurological/neuropsychiatric symptoms are commonly reported by children/young people with long COVID, especially headache, fatigue, cognitive deficits, anosmia and ageusia, dizziness, mood symptoms, and sleep problems. However, reported prevalence estimates are highly variable due to study heterogeneity and often small sample size; most studies only considered short-term follow-ups; and, apart from mood and sleep problems, neuropsychiatric conditions have received less attention. Considering the potential debilitating effects of neurological/neuropsychiatric conditions, a compre…
