Staphylococcus aureus is a prevalent pathogen in infections related to orthopedics. Here, we report on the antimicrobial resistance and treatment with emphasis on both clinical and microbiological perspectives. We recruited 196 patients with S. aureus isolates. Antimicrobial resistance was described by resistance rates, and multidrug resistance (MDR) was classified according to international standards. Antimicrobial agents were classified as active, untested, or inactive according to the antimicrobial susceptibility tests. The treatment stage was divided into empirical and targeted stages, and

Lenacapavir is the first capsid inhibitor and its use is currently approved for multidrug-resistant human immunodeficiency virus-1 infection. We report that, despite the initial efficacy of a lenacapavir-containing regimen in patients with multidrug-resistant human immunodeficiency virus-2 viruses, virological suppression was not achieved after a year and most patients selected capsid drug resistance-associated mutations.

This study aimed to determine the prevalence and associated plasmid resistant genome of extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and Ambler class C cephalosporinase (AmpC) producing commensal Escherichia coli, using a targeted pDNA approach, from lactating cows and pre-weaned calves on dairy farms in Western Australian (WA). Following culture and modified double disc diffusion, ESBL and/or AmpC producing commensal E. coli were isolated from faecal samples and phenotypic antimicrobial resistance (AMR) determined. Plasmid DNA (pDNA) was extracted, amplified, and sequenced to identify the AMR and rep

The rise of antimicrobial resistance poses a significant public health challenge, with an increasing number of organisms developing resistance to many antimicrobial agents used to treat infections in humans and animals. This study investigated the role of stray dogs and cats as sentinel animals in the urban environment. Therefore, the sampling of healthy skin was performed to isolate bacterial species present and assess their antimicrobial resistance profile. A total of 690 swabs were collected, comprising 351 cutaneous swabs from dogs and 339 from cats. A total of 770 strains were identified,

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) often relies on poorly resourced laboratory processes. Centralized sequencing was combined with cloud-based, open-source bioinformatics solutions for national AMR surveillance in Cambodia.
METHODS: Blood cultures growing gram-negative bacteria were collected at 6 Cambodian hospitals (January 2021 to October 2022). Isolates were obtained from pure plate growth and shotgun DNA sequencing performed in country. Using public nucleotide and protein databases, reads were aligned for pathogen identific

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant global threat, with E. coli serving as an indicator for resistance patterns in pathogens. This study evaluated the prevalence of AMR in E. coli isolates from dairy farms in Santa Fe, Argentina, focusing on two animal categories: pre-weaned calves and lactating cows. A cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2019 to March 2020, yielding 545 E. coli isolates from fecal samples across 54 dairy farms and three collective calf-rearing farms. Resistance was assessed using the disc diffusion test for multiple antimicrobial classes. The stud

PURPOSE: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is important in the pathogenesis and spread of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). However, very little is known about the association of AMR and C. difficile in South Africa. The present study aimed to investigate the phenotypic and genotypic antimicrobial profiles of clinical C. difficile isolates.
METHODS: Phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) and whole genome sequencing (WGS) were used to characterize the isolates.
RESULTS: The AST showed that 43 isolates were susceptible to metronidazole and vancomycin. The WGS revealed a Pni

UNLABELLED: Salmonella is a foodborne pathogen that poses a significant threat to global public health. It affects several animal species, including horses. Salmonella infections in horses can be either asymptomatic or cause severe clinical illness. Infections caused by Salmonella are presently controlled with antibiotics. Due to the formation of biofilms and the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, the treatment has become more complicated. Our study focused on investigating the prevalence of Salmonella enterica in necropsied horses, assessing the capability for biofilm formation, and motil

Pre-cut fresh fruits and vegetables are highly appealing to consumers for their convenience, however, as they are highly susceptible to microbial contamination in processing, the potential risks of foodborne illnesses to public health are not negligible. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, antibiotic susceptibility and molecular characteristics of major foodborne pathogens (Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella) isolated from fresh-cut fruits and vegetables in Beijing, China. 86 stains were isolated from 326 samples, with S. aureus being the high

Tigecycline and the newly Food and Drug Administration-approved tetracyclines, including eravacycline and omadacycline, are regarded as last-resort treatments for multidrug-resistant Enterobacterales. However, tigecycline resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae has increased, especially the underlying mechanism of heteroresistance is unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms underlying tigecycline resistance and heteroresistance in clinical K. pneumoniae isolates. A total of 153 clinical K. pneumoniae isolates were collected, and identified 15 tigecycline-resistant and three tigecyclin

Campylobacteriosis and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) are global public health concerns. Africa is estimated to have the world's highest incidence of campylobacteriosis and a relatively high prevalence of AMR in Campylobacter spp. from humans and animals. Few studies have compared Campylobacter spp. isolated from humans and poultry in Africa using whole-genome sequencing and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. We explored the population structure and AMR of 178 Campylobacter isolates from East Africa, 81 from patients with diarrhea in Kenya and 97 from 56 poultry samples in Tanzania, collect

Salmonella Typhimurium is a zoonotic pathogen that poses a major threat to public health. This generalist serotype can be found in many hosts and the environment where varying selection pressures may result in the accumulation of antimicrobial resistance determinants. However, the transmission of this serotype between food-producing hosts, specifically between poultry layer flocks and nearby dairy herds, was never demonstrated. We investigated an outbreak at a dairy in Israel to determine the role of nearby poultry houses to be sources of infection. The 2-month outbreak resulted in a 47% morta
