Prognostic Value of Bone Marrow Metabolism on Pretreatment 18F-FDG PET/CT in Patients with Metastatic Melanoma Treated with Anti-PD-1 Therapy.

Our purpose was to investigate the prognostic value of 18F-FDG PET/CT parameters in melanoma patients before beginning therapy with antibodies to the programmed cell death 1 receptor (anti-PD-1). Methods: Imaging parameters including SUVmax, metabolic tumor volume, and the ratio of bone marrow to liver SUVmean (BLR) were measured from baseline PET/CT in 92 patients before the start of anti-PD-1 therapy. The association with survival and imaging parameters combined with clinical factors was evaluated. Clinical and laboratory data were compared between the high-BLR group (>median) and the low-BL

Noninvasive quantification of nonhuman primate dynamic 18F-FDG PET imaging.

18F-FDG uptake rate constant Ki is the main physiology parameter measured in dynamic PET studies. A model-independent graphical analysis using Patlak plot with plasma input function (PIF) is a standard approach used to estimate Ki . The PIF is the 18F-FDG time activity curve (TAC) in plasma that is obtained by serial arterial blood sampling. The purpose of the study is to evaluate a Patlak plot-based optimization approach with reduced blood samples for noninvasive quantification of dynamic 18F-FDG PET imaging. Eight 60 min rhesus monkey brain dynamic 18F-FDG PET scans with arterial blood sampl

The Diagnostic Value of FDG-PET/CT for Urachal Cancer.

BACKGROUND: Urachal carcinoma (UrC) is a rare malignancy that often presents at an advanced stage with metastases in up to a quarter of patients. There is no consensus on the optimal form of staging for patients with UrC. In the present study, we evaluated the diagnostic value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emitted tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) for UrC. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We evaluated 40 consecutive patients who were staged for urachal cancer between 2010 and 2020. They underwent a total of 62 FDG-PET/CTs (40 for primary staging, and 22 during follow-up), which were compa

Predicting malignancy in patients with adrenal tumors using 18 F-FDG-PET/CT SUVmax.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18 F-FDG-PET/CT) parameters may help distinguish malignant from benign adrenal tumors, but few have been externally validated or determined based on definitive pathological confirmation. We determined and validated a threshold for 18 F-FDG-PET/CT maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) in patients who underwent adrenalectomy for a nonfunctional tumor. METHODS: Database review identified patients with 18 F-FDG-PET/CT images available (training cohort), or only SUVmax values (validation cohort).

Functional and metabolic imaging in transthoracic biopsies guided by computed tomography.

OBJECTIVES: CT-guided biopsy of indeterminate lung lesions sometimes provides insufficient histological results due to tumor necrosis. Functional and metabolic methods such as DWI-MR and PET-CT may help by directing sample collection to a lesion area of greater biological representativeness. The objective is to evaluate the histopathological results based on findings on ADC and SUV levels in lung lesions suspected for primary cancer. METHODS: Tissue samples were evaluated after undergoing biopsies guided by either DWI-MR or PET-CT findings. In each patient, sample collection from two lesion a

Brain Metabolic Changes with Longitudinal Transcutaneous Afferent Patterned Stimulation in Essential Tremor Subjects.

BACKGROUND: Non-invasive peripheral nerve stimulation, also referred to as transcutaneous afferent patterned stimulation (TAPS), reduces hand tremor in essential tremor (ET) subjects. However, the mechanism of action of TAPS is unknown. Here, we investigated changes in brain metabolism over three months of TAPS use in ET subjects. METHODS: This was an interventional, open label, single group study enrolling 5 ET subjects. They received 40 minutes of TAPS treatment twice daily for 90 days. Brain metabolic activity and tremor severity were measured using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT, and

Early 18 F-FDG PET/CT in COVID-19.

We report the case of who has been hospitalized complaining about fever in the last 4 days. Laboratory data revealed lymphocytopenia and leucopenia with an elevation of C-reactive protein and positive real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Six days before this hospitalization, when the patient was asymptomatic, 18 F-FDG PET/CT images were performed for the therapeutic control of liver metastases of colorectal cancer. Lung abnormality findings at 18 F-FDG PET/CT images, unrelated to cancer metastases, but suspicious for viral infection, may suggest the presence of C

FDG PET/CT in a Patient With Mantle Cell Lymphoma and COVID-19: Typical Findings.

A 52-year-old woman with no medical history was admitted on March 18, 2020, presenting since 3 days asthenia, abdominal pain, and dry cough but no fever. Adenomegalies, splenomegaly, leukocytosis, and elevated LDH suggested mature lymphoproliferation. Considering the current health context, an RT-PCR testing for COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) was performed and found to be positive. Early chest CT showed no sign of pulmonary infection but multiple adenomegalies. An F-FDG PET/CT performed 5 days later to assess the extent of the hemopathy revealed the apparition of FDG-avid bilateral ground

Solitary vertebral metastatic glioblastoma in the absence of primary brain tumor relapse: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Metastatic glioblastoma presenting as a solitary osteolytic cervical vertebral mass without primary brain tumor relapse is extremely rare with only 1 reported case in the literature. Because of its rarity, it can be easily overlooked and misdiagnosed, posing a diagnostic dilemma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 51-year-old man with right temporal glioblastoma was initially treated by tumor resection, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Eighteen months after surgery, he was readmitted with complaints of neck pain for 2 weeks. Follow-up magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)

Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in a man with COVID-19: SARS-CoV-2-accelerated neurodegeneration?

We describe a man whose first manifestations of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease occurred in tandem with symptomatic onset of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Drawing from recent data on prion disease pathogenesis and immune responses to SARS-CoV-2, we hypothesize that the cascade of systemic inflammatory mediators in response to the virus accelerated the pathogenesis of our patient's prion disease. This hypothesis introduces the potential relationship between immune responses to the novel coronavirus and the hastening of preclinical or manifest neurodegenerative disorders. The global prevalence

Spatial metabolic profiles to discriminate dementia with Lewy bodies from Alzheimer disease.

BACKGROUND: To differentiate dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) from Alzheimer disease (AD) using a single imaging modality is challenging, because of their common hypometabolic findings. Scaled subprofile modeling/principal component analysis (SSM/PCA), an unsupervised artificial intelligence, has the potential to offer an alternative to image analysis. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to produce spatial metabolic profiles to discriminate DLB from AD and to identify the characteristics of the profiles. METHODS: Fifty individuals each with DLB, AD, and normal cognition (NL) underwent 18F-FDG-PET and MRI. Th
