A previously healthy, HIV-negative, 40-year-old man presented with a 2-month history of progressive weakness of his left arm. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an intradural, extramedullary plaque-shaped lesion at C6-T1 levels with high contrast enhancement. A 65-year-old man visited our hospital with a complaint of a left inguinal mass. He had had a past history of tuberculosis. A left spermatic cord tumor was suspected. BACKGROUND: Retroperitoneal lipoma is an extremely rare neoplasm.
AIMS: The authors report a case of giant retroperitoneal lipoma in a 32-year-old white female, with a history of pain and an abdominal mass over a 2-year period. Total abdominal ultrasonography and barium enema showed a large mass located in the retroperitoneal space behind the ascending colon. Laparotomy showed a large encapsulated tumor measuring 20 x 13 x 10 cm and weighing 3.400 g. The histological study revealed a benign neoplasm of fatty cells.
CONCLUSION: The patient remains well 17 years after surgery, without recurren

An infection with the rare mycosis Chrysosporium parvum was diagnosed in a European beaver (Castor fiber) shot in northern Sweden. CA 19-9 is a widely used tumor marker. However, an elevation in serum CA 19-9 can occur in some patients with benign disorders such as cholecystolithiasis in the absence of tumor. We treated a case of acquired ureteral stone-induced giant hydronephrosis with markedly elevated serum CA 19-9 values. After nephrectomy, the serum CA 19-9 level returned to normal. No malignant cells were found in the tissues of the resected kidney. Localization of CA 19-9 was confirmed by immunohistochemical staining of the renal pelvic mucosa. We describe a case of a 44-year-old man, presenting with progressive proptosis of the right eye. Computed Tomographic (CT)-examination showed a cystic mass in the lacrimal gland fossa of the right orbit. The lesion was removed in toto. Histological examination showed evidence of old and recent bleedings and a chronic inflammatory reaction with numerous foreign-body giant cells without epithelial lining. A new case of conjunctival allergic nodule is reported in a Guinean man. This lesion was first described by Ashton and Cook in 1979. Histologically, this nodule consists of amorphous eosinophilic material surrounded by epithelioid and giant cells arranged in a pallisade; some eosinophils are often found in the inflammatory reaction. A retrospective clinical and histopathologic study of 53 patients with granulomatous rosacea was undertaken. The patients had a broad clinical spectrum of lesions that ranged from primarily erythema to papulonodular lesions. Extrafacial lesions occurred in 15% of patients. Three cases are reported in which large granulomas developed 13 to 21 months respectively after removal of intracranial meningiomas (2 cases) and after operation for an anterior communicating artery aneurysm. In each of the cases oxidized cellulose had been used and left in place for haemostasis. All of the granulomas acted as space-occupying lesions. They could be removed operatively with good result. Extremely high concentrations of human chorionic gonadotropin in the cerebrospinal fluid were found in a 5-year-old boy presenting sexual precocity and leg pain. An intramedullary spinal cord tumor was revealed by myelogram and metrizamide computerized tomography, and a biopsy specimen taken at laminectomy.
