Mitral regurgitation (MR) is a broadly diffuse valvular heart disease (VHD) with a significant impact on the healthcare system and patient prognosis. Transcatheter mitral valve interventions (TMVI) are now well-established techniques included in the therapeutic armamentarium for managing patients with mitral regurgitation, either primary or functional MR. Even if the guidelines give indications regarding the correct management of this VHD, the wide heterogeneity of patients' clinical backgrounds and valvular and heart anatomies make each patient a unique case, in which the appropriate device's

Transcatheter aortic valve (TAV) thrombosis may manifest as subclinical leaflet thrombosis (SLT) and clinical valve thrombosis. SLT is relatively common (10%-20%) after transcatheter aortic valve replacement, but clinical implications are uncertain. Clinical valve thrombosis is rare (1.2%) and associated with bioprosthetic valve failure, neurologic or thromboembolic events, heart failure, and death. Treatment for TAV thrombosis has been understudied. In principle, anticoagulation may prevent TAV thrombosis. Non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants, as compared to antiplatelet therapy, are associated

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether transcatheter or surgical aortic valve replacement (TAVR or SAVR) affects clinical and haemodynamic outcomes in symptomatic patients with moderately-severe aortic stenosis (AS).
METHODS: Echocardiographic evidence of severe AS for enrolment in the Evolut Low Risk trial was based on site-reported measurements. For this post hoc analysis, core laboratory measurements identified patients with symptomatic moderately-severe AS (1.0<aortic valve area (AVA)<1.5 cm2, 3.0<peak velocity<4.0 m/s and 20≤mean gradient (MG) <40 mm Hg). Clinical outcomes were reported through

OBJECTIVES: Evidence regarding the benefits of an enhanced recovery after cardiac surgery (ERACS) programme is lacking. The aim of this study was to analyse the impact of a systematic standardized ERACS programme for patients undergoing isolated elective surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) for aortic stenosis in terms of hospital mortality and morbidity, patient blood management and length of stay.
METHODS: Patients undergoing isolated elective SAVR for aortic stenosis between 2015 and 2020 were identified from our database (n = 941). The standardized systematic ERACS programme was imple

BACKGROUND: Transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) has emerged as alternative to transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) for treatment of mitral regurgitation (MR); however, the role of TMVR with the Tendyne system among established treatments of MR is not well defined. We assessed characteristics and outcomes of patients treated with the Tendyne system in the current clinical practice.
METHODS: We reviewed patients who underwent cardiac computed tomography and were judged eligible for the Tendyne system.
RESULTS: A total of 63 patients were eligible for TMVR with the Tendyne system.
