Cancer Stigma, Distress, and Cancer Coping in Relation to the Quality of Life Among Patients with Lung Cancer: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background/Objectives: Patients with lung cancer often experience impaired quality of life because of symptom burden and psychosocial difficulties. Cancer stigma and distress are associated with poorer quality of life, whereas adaptive coping may support psychological adjustment. This study examined the relationships among cancer stigma, distress, cancer coping, and quality of life and identified factors associated with quality of life in patients with lung cancer. Methods: This cross-sectional correlational study included 168 patients with lung cancer receiving inpatient or outpatient care at

Illness Perception and Delayed Healthcare-Seeking in Urban Chinese Women with Pelvic Organ Prolapse: A Qualitative Study Using the Common-Sense Model.

INTRODUCTION: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is prevalent among postmenopausal women in China, yet many delay care for months or years. Guided by the Common-Sense Model of Self-Regulation (CSM), this study explored illness perceptions and coping experiences among Chinese women with moderate-to-severe POP who delayed healthcare-seeking. METHODS: A descriptive phenomenological design was used. Seventeen women (mean age 61 years; delay range: 12-360 months) were purposively recruited from a tertiary hospital in Guangdong Province. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and analyzed using Colaizz

Implementing an Interprofessional Simulation Program for Paediatric Patient Safety.

BACKGROUND: Simulation-based medical education is a widely recognised tool to improve patient safety culture and outcomes. Many preventable clinic errors are specific to the unit where they occur. We planned and conducted an interprofessional in situ simulation program aligned with unit-specific errors and report its design, implementation and evaluation. APPROACH: This prospective, survey-based study was conducted at a paediatric tertiary care centre on a medical-surgical inpatient ward. Incident and accident reports were reviewed; the most frequent and/or severe events were identified. Eigh

Improving paediatric quality of care through a Sweden-Uganda twinning partnership - reflections on implementation and early experiences from the child thrive project.

Despite major global progress in child health, significant inequalities remain between low- and high-income countries. In Uganda's Busoga region, child mortality is still high, largely due to preventable conditions and limited healthcare resources. In response, a paediatric health partnership was established in 2021 between the Busoga region and Stockholm, Sweden. Following a quality-of-care assessment in two Ugandan hospitals, the collaboration identified four priority areas: paediatric emergency care, neonatology, child neurology with a focus on epilepsy, and child rights. Over 3 years, 63 s

Impact of Housing Status on Mortality Following Frostbite Injury: A Multicenter Cohort Analysis.

Unhoused persons are particularly vulnerable to frostbite injury due to prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures. This study hypothesized that unhoused frostbite injured patients have a higher mortality risk compared to housed individuals. Data from 2 high-volume frostbite centers were analyzed and linked to state health department records. A longitudinal cohort of 933 frostbite patients who survived their initial hospital stay (n = 925) was examined with Cox proportional hazards regression to adjust for confounders (age, sex, race, alcohol use, and drug use). Nearly one-third of patients we

Virtual joint school prior to hip and knee arthroplasty: patient feedback and carbon footprint savings.

INTRODUCTION: Patient education programmes prior to hip and knee arthroplasty reduce anxiety and create realistic expectations. We describe a 'virtual joint school' (VJS) model and analyse patient feedback and environmental impact. METHODS: Eligible patients first viewed online educational videos, and then attended an interactive virtual session during which knowledge was reinforced. Each session was attended by eight to ten patients along with a relative or friend, and was hosted by a multidisciplinary team consisting of nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and a former patient

Factors Predicting Depression Among Thai Adolescents During the Transition From the COVID-19 Pandemic to the Endemic Phase.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent depression is a major public health issue in Thailand, with post-pandemic rates at 27%-37%. While perceived stress, coping, and social support are linked to depressive symptoms, their combined predictive contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic-to-endemic transition are underexplored among Southeast Asian adolescents. PURPOSE: This study examined the effects of perceived stress, approach coping, avoidance coping, and social support on depressive symptoms among Thai adolescents during this transition. METHODOLOGY: A predictive cross-sectional design was used with 605

Antibody diversification in cartilaginous fishes: Mechanistic insights from the nurse shark and comparative perspectives across jawed vertebrates.

Antibody diversity in vertebrates arises through the coordinated actions of V(D)J recombination and somatic hypermutation (SHM). Cartilaginous fishes occupy a key phylogenetic position as the sister lineage to bony vertebrates and therefore provide important comparative insights into the evolution of adaptive immunity. This review focuses on the nurse shark (Ginglymostoma cirratum) as a representative model for examining antibody-diversification mechanisms in cartilaginous fishes. Shark immunoglobulin genes exhibit a multicluster organization, while immunoglobulin new antigen receptor (IgNAR),

Improving placement of central venous catheters in 22 hospitals in China: a best practice implementation project.

INTRODUCTION: Correct central venous catheter (CVC) placement is important, as inappropriate practices can lead to central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), which increase the risk of death as well as imposing a heavy financial burden. OBJECTIVES: This multi-site project was conducted across 22 hospitals in China, and aimed to improve compliance with evidence-based bundles for the placement of CVCs among doctors, anesthetists, and operating room specialized nurses to reduce the rate of CLABSIs. METHODS: This project was guided by the JBI Model of Evidence-based Healthcare and

Predicting GLP-1 Discontinuation From Pharmacy Claims.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) have rapidly become high-visibility therapies for type 2 diabetes and obesity, with growing evidence of cardiovascular benefit. Yet multiple real-world studies show that adherence and persistence are modest: In obesity cohorts without diabetes, approximately one-third of members remain on therapy at 1 year, and among those with type 2 diabetes, nearly half discontinue by 12 months and approximately 70% by 24 months. This gap between trial efficacy and real-world use raises critical questions for payers, pharmacy benefit managers, and employ
