The Predictive Value of Proportional Evaluation Based on the Metabolic Activity of Cervical Lymph Nodes on PET/CT Imaging in Patients with Larynx Cancer.

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to evaluate the proportional values of maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) for cervical lymph nodes on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for prediction of the presence of metastasis in patients with larynx squamous cell cancer (LSCC). METHODS: This retrospective study involved 43 patients with LSCC. All patients underwent resection of the primary tumor and neck dissection within 4 weeks after undergoing 18F-FDG PET/CT examinations. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to evaluate the lym…

Efficacy of polyglycolic acid sheets and fibrin glue for the prevention of post-ELPS bleeding.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety of a covering method using polyglycolic acid (PGA) sheets and fibrin glue in preventing laryngopharyngeal bleeding after endoscopic laryngopharyngeal surgery (ELPS) combined with endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). METHODS: Twenty-one patients who underwent ELPS combined with ESD (28 resected pharyngeal carcinomas) were retrospectively evaluated. After completing ELPS combined with ESD, fibrinogen was sprayed onto the ulcer. A PGA sheet cut into 5 × 5 mm pieces that fit the size of the ELPS-induced ulcer was then placed over the ulcer and fixed

Do the upper lateral nasal cartilages exist? The concept of septolateral cartilages.

BACKGROUND: In the cartilaginous nose, classical surgical anatomy describes 2 triangular upper lateral cartilages (ULCs) framing the lateral sides of the mid-third of the nasal pyramid, which articulate with to the superior edge of the quadrangular cartilage (QC) of the nasal septum. This anatomic arrangement in 3 distinct cartilage parts is, however, controversial. OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to describe the articulation between the ULCs and the QC, avoiding dissection artefacts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six nasal pyramids were taken in monobloc from fresh cadavers and imaged on micro-

Analysis of the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the intraoral minor salivary glands: a retrospective study of 40 cases.

The clinicopathological aspects and prognostic factors of 40 patients with adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the intraoral minor salivary gl … ose with positive surgical margins showed a significantly higher risk of local recurrence. Elective neck dissection is suggested for patients with clinically positive lymph nodes or a locally advanced tumour, especially those undergoing microvascular reconstruction. The survival analysis results are similar to those reported previously in the literature.

Atlanto-occipital Dissociation in the Setting of Relatively Normal Radiologic Findings.

BACKGROUND: Craniocervical junction (CCJ) dislocations are often fatal. Atlanto-occipital dissociation can be challenging to diagnose, especially in patients who present with absent or subtle radiologic signs. CASE DESCRIPTION: A neurologically intact 37-year-old patient presented to the hospital following a high-speed motor vehicle accident. Initial computed tomography scans showed normal CCJ anatomy, but magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the CCJ was performed to further evaluate perimesencephalic subarachnoid hemorrhage. MRI revealed partial disruption of the anterior atlantoaxial membran

A New Planning Method to Easily Harvest the Superficial Circumflex Iliac Artery Perforator Flap.

BACKGROUND: The superficial circumflex iliac artery perforator flap (SCIP) is a thin, pliable, and versatile flap used mainly for extremities and head and neck reconstruction. Different planning methods have been described, but these are not yet standardized like in other flaps. The aim of this study is to present a fast, effective, and reliable method for SCIP flap planning using computed tomography angiography (CTA). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between October 2017 and September 2018, CTA was performed on 40 patients. Preoperative planning of SCIP flaps based on the medial branch was performed an

Results of "Trochanteric Femoral Nailing (TFN)" in comminuted unstable trochanteric fractures.

Unstable trochanteric fractures and fractures with reverse obliquity pose difficulty in fixation. In recent years, intramedullary nails, for the treatment of comminuted and unstable intertrochanteric hip fractures, are becoming more popular relative to conventional, sliding hip screws. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the result of Trochanteric femoral nailing in comminuted, unstable Trochanteric femur fracture in terms of anatomical restoration and functional outcome. It is a prospective and without control study. Trochanteric femoral nailing has been done in comminuted unstable inter

Microsurgical technique for concurrent cervical corpectomy and ventral phrenic nerve access in the rat.

The phrenic nerve is useful to record as a motor output in studies investigating neural control of respiration. It may be accessed via dorsal or ventral microsurgical approaches. Since such studies frequently involve concurrent access to the spinal cord, the two approaches may be alternatively used, each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. The dorsal approach permits easier exposure of the spinal cord via laminectomy, but, compared to the ventral approach, phrenic nerve access proves more challenging, and concurrent surgical access to the full complement of respiratory-related ne

Open stent graft repair with upper-half Sternotomy for blunt thoracic aortic injury: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair is now widely applied to the treatment of blunt aortic injury. However, its long-term outcomes remain unclear. Endoleakage and migration might occur in the long term, especially when younger patients undergo endovascular aortic repair. In open stent grafting, the proximal end of the open stent graft is directly sutured to the native aorta, which may reduce the risk of endoleakage and migration. We applied open stent grafting to the treatment of blunt aortic injury in the subacute phase and herein report the patient's clinical course. CASE PRESEN
