Seventeen proved cases of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICAC) were reviewed to establish a radiologic-pathologic correlation. The most common appearance of ICAC at computed tomography (CT) is that of a single, homogeneous low-attenuation mass. Multiple low-attenuation lesions were present in four cases. Calcification was depicted by CT in three cases. At angiography, ICAC has a variable appearance with avascular, hypovascular, and hypervascular patterns possible. This paper describes the pathological findings in two cases of delayed contralateral hemiparesis following herpes zoster arteritis. Both died of cerebral haemorrhage and a necrotizing angiitis was found involving the major vessels of the ipsilateral cerebral hemisphere. No feature of granulomatous arteritis or of encephalitis was found. It is likely that the virus spreads along intracranial branches of the ophthalmic nerve supplying the major arteries and causes the inflammatory reaction by direct invasion of vascular muscle.

The plasminogen activating factor of tissue detectable by fibrinolysis autography is diminished in varicosis with and without postthrombotic syndrome, in diabetic nephropathy, in viral pneumonia and after short-term cyclophosphamide therapy. The only condition in which an increase of this factor can be observed is mechanical damage of tissue. The importance of the findings for pathogenesis and therapy is stressed. Whether the results are influenced by inhibitors of extrinsic plasminogen activation is discussed.
