One-piece zirconia oral implants supporting three-unit fixed dental prostheses: Ten-year results from a prospective case series.

OBJECTIVES: This prospective case series aimed to evaluate the long-term clinical and radiographic outcomes of one-piece zirconia implants used to support three-unit fixed dental prostheses after a decade of functional loading. The primary endpoint was implant survival. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 54 implants were placed in 27 patients using a one-stage surgical approach with immediate provisionalization. Peri-implant bone loss was assessed using standardized radiographs; soft-tissue parameters were also evaluated. Statistical analysis was conducted using linear mixed regression models

Spanish translation, adaptation, and validation of the Epilepsy Surgery Satisfaction Questionnaire-19.

OBJECTIVE: The effectiveness of surgery in drug-resistant epilepsies is often focused exclusively on seizure control. The Epilepsy Surgery Satisfaction Questionnaire-19 (ESSQ_19), developed in 2020, is a reliable tool for assessing the level of satisfaction of patients undergoing surgery. We aimed to perform a Spanish translation, adaptation, and validation of the ESSQ_19 questionnaire. METHODS: This was a prospective multicenter study (five Spanish-speaking countries) including an international cohort of adult patients who underwent epilepsy surgery at least 1 year prior to participation. We

Win-Win Pricing of Follow-Up Policies Under Healthcare Warranties for Chronic Diseases: A Mathematical Modeling Approach.

Implementing follow-up policies under healthcare warranties for chronic disease patients plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of adverse outcomes (AOs) and controlling long-term medical costs. However, the additional cost associated with these services often discourages hospitals from providing them. Background/Objectives: To incentivize participation from both hospitals and patients in follow-up programs, this paper introduces a patient copayment mechanism. We propose a theoretical mathematical modeling framework to investigate the optimal pricing of follow-up policies from both patients

Predictors of treatment outcomes for patients with persistent physical symptoms in primary care: findings from a cluster randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Persistent physical symptoms (PPS) are consistently prevalent among primary care patients. PPS can negatively affect quality of life, healthcare costs, and work participation. In a previous study, we found substantially improved outcomes and reduced sick leave for patients treated by a work-focused communication tool, known as the Individual Challenge Inventory Tool (ICIT), compared with a control group. AIM: To examine predictors of treatment outcome in patients who received treatment by ICIT, delivered by the patient's GP. DESIGN & SETTING: This study is based on the findings o

Diabetes rescue, engagement, and management (D-REM) for hypoglycemia: Clinical trial protocol of a community paramedic program to improve diabetes management among adults with severe hypoglycemia.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes is among the most prevalent chronic conditions in the United States. Challenges in optimal diabetes care include fragmented care, gaps in diabetes self-management education, and high treatment burden. Severe hypoglycemia, a serious and potentially preventable event, indicates the need for treatment optimization. Inadequate or inaccessible care increases hypoglycemia risk. Community paramedics are well-positioned to fill these care gaps by providing focused diabetes self-management education and improving patient self-efficacy. Integrating community paramedics into care tea

Strategies for the development of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors for kidney protection in pediatric chronic kidney disease: proceedings of a workshop meeting in July 2023.

Pediatric patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are treated with nonspecific therapies such as renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors; however, there are no approved therapies to slow the progression of pediatric CKD across its diverse etiologies. Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) have demonstrated efficacy in slowing the rate of decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate and CKD progression in adults. These therapies hold the promise of similar clinical benefit for pediatric patients with CKD by potentially delaying progression to kidney failure. However,

The risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in pediatric patients under dental and oral surgery.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is a relatively common complication of general anesthesia. We encountered PONV in pediatric patients after dental and oral maxillofacial surgeries under general anesthesia. In particular, there is a higher incidence of PONV due to bleeding of the oral cavity and aspiration of gastric contents. In this study, we retrospectively investigated the risk factors of PONV on the first postoperative day in pediatric patients. METHODS: This study was approved by the Kyushu University Clinical Research Ethics Committee and was conducted retrospectivel

Compliance of Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis-Specific Exercise in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: A Scoping Review.

Background: Non-surgical management of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) includes physiotherapeutic scoliosis-specific exercise (PSSE). Determining the efficacy of PSSE in AIS has been challenging as the clinical effect is closely linked to exercise compliance (a dose-response relationship), with home exercise programs (HEPs) showing a general trend for decreased participation over time. The existing literature reports contradictory definitions and parameters of appropriate PSSE compliance in AIS. As such, this scoping review is necessary for therapists to identify PSSE prescription consis

What outcomes are important to people with foot and ankle disorders in rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases? An OMERACT qualitative interview study across four continents.

BACKGROUND: The foot and ankle are frequently affected in rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs), yet there is a lack of high-quality evidence to determine the effectiveness of treatments. Outcomes in research are often inconsistently measured, impeding evidence synthesis. Additionally, clinical decisions are based on research outcomes, but these are not always regarded as important by people with RMDs. This study aimed to determine domains of importance to people with RMDs who have experienced foot and ankle disorders, and aid in developing a standardised core outcome set (COS) to addr
