Pulsed Radiofrequency in the Management of Postsurgical Abdominal Wall Chronic Pain: A Report From a Single Oncological Center.

Chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) is defined as pain that develops or increases in intensity after a surgical procedure or tissue injury and persists beyond the healing process, lasting at least three months after the precipitating event. Often neuropathic in nature, CPSP can be challenging to manage. CPSP is a common complication, with data suggesting an incidence ranging from 5% to 85%, depending on the type of procedure. Meralgia paresthetica (MP) and ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric neuralgias (IH/IL N) are two possible clinical scenarios of CPSP following lower abdominal procedures. Pulsed rad

Flexible 3-D Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Sensors Incorporating Phase Delay for Comprehensive Characterization of Atherosclerosis.

BACKGROUND: Distinguishing quiescent from rupture-prone atherosclerotic lesions has significant translational and clinical implications. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) characterizes biological tissues by assessing impedance and phase delay responses to alternating current at multiple frequencies. We evaluated invasive 6-point stretchable EIS sensors over a spectrum of experimental atherosclerosis and compared results with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), molecular positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, and histology. METHODS: Male New Zealand White rabbits (n=16) were placed

[Continuous peridural anesthesia in abdominal surgery. An alternative for elderly patients].

Being advanced in years is not in itself a high risk in anaesthesia; however, altered pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, mental dysfunction and the administration of anaesthetics complicate the postoperative period. In order to examine the problem of sedation in elderly patients, we studied the effects and side effects of continuous peridural anaesthesia for abdominal surgery. METHODS. On the day before surgery we inserted a peridural catheter (Perifix 400, Braun, Melsungen, FRG) between T-12 and L-4 in 52 patients in a sitting position (mean age 69.3 +/- 10.9 years) using the loss-of-resi

Giant pedunculated submucosal leiomyoma mimicking a cervical mass in a postmenopausal woman . a rare case report.

UNLABELLED: Uterine leiomyomas are common benign smooth muscle tumors predominantly affecting women of reproductive age. In postmenopausal women, they are rare due to the hypoestrogenic state, which usually leads to fibroid regression. Pedunculated submucosal leiomyomas prolapsing through the cervix into the vagina are rare, especially in postmenopausal women, and may mimic cervical or vaginal masses, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges particularly in low-resource settings. CASE PRESENTATION: Here we present a rare case of a 56-year-old, P4L4, 8 years postmenopausal woman from North

Comparison of complications in our extraperitoneal radical cystoprostatectomy with orthotopic urinary diversion cases and the intraperitoneal approach reported in the literature.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the postoperative complications of extraperitoneal radical cystoprostatectomy (EPRC) with orthotopic urinary diversion performed in our clinic. Because no contemporaneous intraperitoneal control group was included, outcomes were compared indirectly with those reported in previously published series of intraperitoneal radical cystoprostatectomy (IPRC). Although IPRC remains the standard approach, the extraperitoneal technique has attracted increasing interest due to its potential to reduce bowel manipulation and thereby lower gastrointestinal complicatio

Clinicopathological features of two ultra-rare cases of malignant perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) involving the uterus with recent updates.

Malignant perivascular epithelioid tumors (PEComas) involving the uterus are uncommon. Herein, we present the clinicopathological features of two such cases, including their diagnostic implications with recent updates. A 62-year-old lady presented with vaginal bleeding. Ultrasonogram revealed a heterogeneous uterine mass. She underwent an endometrial biopsy and total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (TAH-BSO), which revealed a 3.2 cm-sized proliferative tumor in the fundus. A 45-year-old lady presented with recurrent abdominal pain. She underwent cytoreductive surger

GP VI-Mediated Platelet Activation and Procoagulant Activity Aggravate Inflammation and Aortic Wall Remodeling in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.

BACKGROUND: Platelets play an important role in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a highly lethal, atherosclerosis-related disease with characteristic features of progressive dilatation of the abdominal aorta and degradation of the vessel wall, accompanied by chronic inflammation. Platelet activation and procoagulant activity play a decisive role in the AAA pathology as they might trigger AAA development in both mice and humans. METHODS: The present study investigated the impact of the major platelet collagen receptor GP (platelet glycoprotein) VI

Analysis of Serious Weight Gain in Patients Using Alectinib for ALK-Positive Lung Cancer.

INTRODUCTION: Alectinib is a standard-of-care treatment for metastatic ALK+ NSCLC. Weight gain is an unexplored side effect reported in approximately 10%. To prevent or intervene alectinib-induced weight gain, more insight in its extent and etiology is needed. METHODS: Change in body composition was analyzed in a prospective series of 46 patients with ALK+ NSCLC, treated with alectinib. Waist circumference, visceral adipose tissue (VAT), subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), and skeletal muscle were quantified using sliceOmatic software on computed tomography images at baseline, 3 months (3M), a

Lysyl hydroxylase 1 (LH1) deficiency promotes angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced dissecting abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Rationale: The progressive disruption of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, particularly early elastin fragmentation followed by abnormalities in collagen fibril organization, are key pathological processes that contribute to dissecting abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) pathogenesis. Lysyl hydroxylase 1 (LH1) is essential for type I/III collagen intermolecular crosslinking and stabilization. However, its function in dissecting AAA has not been explored. Here, we investigated whether LH1 is significantly implicated in dissecting AAA progression and therapeutic intervention. Methods and Results:
