Combining custom retraction, fiducial markers, and splinted implant scan bodies for mandibular complete arch implant scanning: A dental technique.

Intraoral scanning of a severely atrophic mandible remains challenging because of limited crestal landmarks, mobile soft tissues, and restricted scanner access. This dental technique describes a workflow that combines a patient-specific 3-dimensionally printed retractor, temporary parasymphyseal miniscrews as fiducial markers, and implant scan bodies (ISBs) splinted with an orthodontic elastomeric chain and flowable resin for a severely atrophic mandibular arch. The retractor improves exposure of the peri-implant mucosa, the miniscrews provide detectable landmarks for alignment, and the splint

Internal brace augmentation in ACL reconstruction increases structural strength and stiffness: a biomechanical study in a porcine tibia model.

This study was to compare the biomechanical outcomes of three ACL graft tibial fixations. Biomechanical testing was performed on 36 fresh porcine tibias and flexor profundus tendon divided into three groups: interference screw group (n = 12), internal brace group (n = 12) and combined group (n = 12). The samples underwent cyclic loading at 1 Hz at 50-250 N for 1000 cycles, following by load-to-failure testing (200 mm/min). The cyclic displacement, stiffness and ultimate failure loads were compared between the techniques. No sample failed during cyclic load test. The mean periodic displacement

Orthodontic traction of a deeply impacted mandibular first molar via a ramus miniscrew through lateral-window technique: A case report.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of mandibular first molar impaction is less than 0.01%, and there are no standard treatment guidelines. Orthodontic traction can be chosen as a treatment plan in some circumstances. One miniscrew in the mandibular ramus can offer sufficient anchorage for the traction of impacted mandibular molars. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 10-year-old boy had a completely labially positioned maxillary left canine and a deeply impacted mandibular left first molar associated with a dentigerous cyst. Using 2 palatal miniscrews for distalization, space was created to align the maxillary left c

Connecting the S2 alar-iliac screw head to the satellite rod for surgical correction of degenerative sagittal imbalance.

PURPOSE: The S2AI screw technique has several advantages over the conventional iliac screw fixation technique. However, connecting the S2AI screw head to the main rod is difficult due to its medial entry point. We introduce a new technique for connecting the S2AI screw head to a satellite rod and compare it with the conventional method of connecting the S2AI screw to the main rod. METHODS: Seventy-four patients who underwent S2AI fixation for degenerative sagittal imbalance and were followed up for ≥ 2 years were included. All the patients underwent long fusion from T9 or T10 to the pelvis. T

Implantation of S1AIS has priority as a sacroiliac joint fixation technique.

PURPOSE: The sacral alar-iliac screw (SAIS) fixation technique has evolved from spinopelvic fixation which originated from S2AIS to sacroiliac joint fixation, with more reports regarding its application of S2AIS than S1AIS. However, there is a lack of comparative evidence to determine which technique is superior for sacroiliac joint fixation. This study aimed to determine which of the screws was superior in terms of implantation safety and biomechanical stability for sacroiliac joint fixation. METHODS: CT data of 80 normal pelvises were analyzed to measure the insertable range, trajectory len

A Modified Fixation Method for Talonavicular Arthrodesis in the Treatment of Müller-Weiss Disease: The Use of the Shape-Memory Alloy Staple as an Adjunct.

OBJECTIVE: Arthrodesis, usage of metallic implants for internal fixation, is commonly employed as the primary treatment modality for Müller-Weiss disease (MWD). Nevertheless, the efficacy of the current methods of fixation leaves room for improvement. Inadequate fixation strength and the risk of fixation failure are both critical concerns requiring attention. This study explored the clinical effects of implementing a modified fixation technique in talonavicular arthrodesis for the treatment of MWD. METHODS: A total of 14 cases diagnosed with MWD undergoing talonavicular (TN) arthrodesis from

Hemi-Percutaneous Epiphysiodesis Using Transphyseal Screws at Lateral Proximal Tibias After Epiphyseal Fusion of Distal Phalanges in the Hand Results in Undercorrection of Genu Varum.

Background and Objectives: To investigate postoperative courses after hemi-percutaneous epiphysiodesis using transphyseal screws (PETS) for genu varum. We especially focused on the degree of skeletal maturation that results in undercorrection. Materials and Methods: We identified patients with idiopathic genu varum treated with hemi-PETS at the proximal tibia and followed-up to the completion of skeletal maturation. The acceptable correction was defined as the (1) final deformity < varus 1.0° or (2) final correction angle obtained by surgery (f-CA) > mean value of preoperative deformity. Resul

Two-screw osteosynthesis of the mandibular condylar head with different screw materials: a finite element analysis.

This study compared the biomechanical behavior of titanium, magnesium, and polylactic acid screws for two-screw osteosynthesis of mandibular condylar head fractures using finite element analysis. Von Mises stress distribution, fracture displacement, and fragment deformation were evaluated. Titanium screws performed the best in terms of carrying the highest load, resulting in the least fracture displacement and fragment deformation. Magnesium screws showed intermediate results, while PLA screws were found to be unsuitable with stress values exceeding their tensile strength. These findings sugge

Transarticular Fixation Using Bioabsorptive Screws for Cervical Lesions.

Transarticular screw fixation is a method for posterior cervical fixation. It is ergonomic because neither connectors nor rods are needed. Biomechanical studies have shown that its fixation force is not inferior to that of lateral mass screws. More information is needed on the surgical outcome of procedures using bioabsorptive screws. We investigated the long-term surgical and radiological outcomes of posterior cervical decompression and fusion using bioabsorptive screws for transarticular fixation.Of 10 patients who underwent cervical spine transarticular fixation using bioabsorptive screws,
