Molecular characterization of some multidrug resistant Candida Auris in egypt.

Candida auris is an emerging multidrug-resistant yeast that causes healthcare-associated and deep-seated infections. Notably, the emergence of this yeast is alarming as it exhibits resistance to azoles, echinocandins, and amphotericin B, which may lead to clinical treatment failure in patients. This study aims to identify and characterize the genetic determinants of antifungal resistance in C. auris among some local clinical isolates to contribute for understanding the molecular epidemiology of C. auris in Egypt. Four test strains were identified based on the ribosomal internal transcribed spa

The rise of Candidozyma auris in Czechia: three clades, prosthetic joint infection and fluconazole resistance development, 2022 to 2024.

BACKGROUNDCandidozyma auris has emerged globally as a major threat to public health due to its outbreak causing capacity and antifungal resistance. Outbreaks have proven difficult to control despite enhanced infection prevention measures. Thus, national surveillance is warranted.AIMWe aim to characterise the epidemiology of C. auris cases in Czechia between 2022 and 2024 to investigate whether autochthonous spread is occurring and asses antifungal resistance.METHODSHigh-resolution genotyping was performed to assess genetic relatedness between isolates. Microbroth dilution was performed on all

The Direct Effects of Air Pollutant Exposure from Industrial Complexes on Chronic Respiratory Diseases in Local Residents: A Population-Based Cohort Study.

New evidence suggests that industrial areas may have a negative impact on the chronic respiratory disease burden among residents who live more than 10 km away compared to residents who live within at least 5 km. The main cause of air pollution in factories was found to be benzene, and its regional relevance was confirmed. This is the result of many studies confirming that benzene is a substance that directly affects the respiratory system, and we aim to maintain continuous observation in the future. Using South Korean health insurance data, we retrospectively followed a cohort of residents liv

Characterization of multi-pollutant air quality in China using health-centric air pollution indices.

Epidemiological studies have consistently demonstrated a strong association between air pollution and human health. However, the current Air Quality Index (AQI) methodology used in China has been criticized for relying solely on the maximum concentration of a single pollutant, thereby failing to reflect the cumulative health impact of multiple pollutants. This study evaluated the effectiveness of three alternative indices-the Health Risk-Based Air Quality Index (HAQI), the Air Quality Health Index, and the Air Pollution Index (API)-in characterizing multi-pollutant air quality across China fro

Air Pollution and Effects of Tropospheric Ozone (O3) on Public Health.

Air pollution is a significant and widespread issue that presents serious challenges for both human health and the environment because of the presence of a variety of harmful substances in the air, such as tropospheric ozone (O3), particulate matter (PM10), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and carbon monoxide (CO). In this research, the aim is to evaluate the current evidence for the harmful effects of air pollution on human health, focusing on tropospheric ozone, and to highlight the need for further research in the future. The objective is to evaluate recent data on the respirato

Idiopathic Anaphylaxis.

Idiopathic anaphylaxis (IA) refers to recurrent, life-threatening hypersensitivity reactions without identifiable triggers, representing a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. We describe a 17-year-old girl presenting with recurrent episodes of flushing, pruritus, and respiratory symptoms, without consistent allergen exposure or cofactor involvement. Evaluation revealed elevated acute tryptase levels with a normal baseline, negative skin testing results, and negative galactose-α-1,3-galactose (α-gal) and KIT mutation analysis. The patient improved on daily cetirizine with no further reactions

Isolation and identification of a subtype C avian metapneumovirus in chickens in Jiangsu, China.

Avian metapneumovirus (aMPV) is a viral pathogen that mainly causes respiratory signs and drops in egg production in turkeys, chickens, and ducks. Here, an aMPV subgroup C (aMPV/C) strain, designated GX22-01, was isolated and identified from severe respiratory disease in broiler breeder chickens in 2022 in Jiangsu, China, as evidenced by indirect immunofluorescence and western blotting using specific anti-viral protein antibodies and by sequence analysis of viral nucleoprotein (N) gene. N gene sequencing indicated that the GX22-01 strain shares a high identity (94.3%-99.8 %) with aMPV/C isolat

Cerebral Toxoplasmosis Mimicking a Brain Neoplasm in an Inaugural HIV-Positive Patient: The Importance of Early Decision-Making and Background Assessment in the Emergency Department.

Intracranial lesions can present a diagnostic challenge in patients without previously known immunosuppression. When focal neurological signs and seizures occur in a patient with no established medical history, an expansive brain lesion may be initially interpreted as a neoplasm, influencing early clinical decisions regarding the extent of supportive measures. However, opportunistic infections, such as cerebral toxoplasmosis, should remain on the differential diagnosis - particularly after consideration of the patient's background and potential epidemiological risks. We present the case of a m

Cystic Echinococcosis in Hospitalized Children and Adults from Western Romania: 2007-2022.

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a serious health problem in many countries worldwide, including in Romania, because of the high infection rates in both humans and animals. We retrospectively assessed the demographic and epidemiological features of CE in children and adults hospitalized in Western Romania between 2007-2022. Analyzed data were collected from the hospitals' medical records. This research involved 426 subjects (3-90 years): 60 (14.1%) children and 366 (85.9%) adults. A decreasing trend in the number of cases was noted during the analyzed period (p = 0.004). Multiple-organ involvemen

Advancing the understanding and management of Mpox: insights into epidemiology, disease pathways, prevention, and therapeutic strategies.

Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a zoonotic viral disease caused by the Mpox virus (MPXV), a member of the Orthopoxvirus genus. This disease is of significant concern due to its zoonotic transmission, which can be challenging to control, its ability to spread easily from person to person, the potential for severe symptoms or even fatality, and its history of frequent global outbreaks. Despite the growing threat, there is still limited research on the pathophysiology of the disease and available disease-modifying treatments. To address this gap, the latest developments in Mpox epidemiolo

Meningococcal Disease in Older Adults: Challenges in Diagnosis and Management.

Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) in older adults frequently presents with atypical clinical manifestations, including bacteremic pneumonia, often without classical meningeal signs or sepsis, which presents clinicians with diagnostic challenges, and may delay treatment, which contributes to the high mortality observed in older adults. Within the broader resurgence of IMD observed since relaxation of quarantine measures introduced to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a notable increase in reporting of such atypical cases. The aim of this review is to summarize epid
