BACKGROUND: It is commonly assumed that there is no difference in iron status between male and female infants, despite a lack of studies addressing this question.

METHODS: At 4 months of age, 263 term, breastfed infants (121 Swedish and 142 Honduran) were randomized to receive iron supplements or placebo until 9 months of age. BACKGROUND: Weight loss may cause nutrient deficiencies that hinder further weight loss. This study aimed to assess serum ferritin, folate, and vitamin B12 levels and examine their roles in weight loss after bariatric surgery (BS).
METHODS: In 135 obese patients, serum ferritin, folate, and vitamin B12 levels were measured from baseline to 12 months post-BS. Weight loss was measured by percentage of total weight loss (%TWL) and excess weight loss (%EWL) using linear regression.
