The experience of home for people with chronic pain: A mixed methods study.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic pain, defined as intermittent or continuous pain for a minimum of 3 months, is a prevalent and pervasive health issue that commonly results in occupational participation changes and individuals spending more time within the home. Yet the role of the home environment in pain and pain management has not been specifically explored. This study had two aims. The first aim was to explore how home is experienced for people with chronic pain across the six dimensions of home using the Dimensions of Home Measure. The second aim was to explore relationships between pain, mood, and

Financing of pediatric home health care. Committee on Child Health Financing, Section on Home Care, American Academy of Pediatrics.

In certain situations, home health care has been shown to be a cost-effective alternative to inpatient hospital care. National health expenditures reveal that pediatric home health costs totaled $5.3 billion in 2000. Medicaid is the major payer for pediatric home health care (77%), followed by other public sources (22%). Private health insurance and families each paid less than 1% of pediatric home health expenses. The most important factors affecting access to home health care are the inadequate supply of clinicians and ancillary personnel, shortages of home health nurses with pediatric exper

Global and regional cancer burden attributable to modifiable risk factors to inform prevention.

Cancer remains a leading cause of morbidity globally, largely attributable to modifiable risks. We estimated the 2022 global and national cancer burden attributable to 30 such factors, including tobacco smoking, alcohol consumption, high body mass index, insufficient physical activity, smokeless tobacco and areca nut, suboptimal breastfeeding, air pollution, ultraviolet radiation, 9 infectious agents and 13 occupational exposures, to inform prevention efforts. Using GLOBOCAN data for 36 cancer sites in 185 countries, we applied prevalence data from around 2012 to reflect exposure-cancer latenc

Brucellosis in healthcare settings: research advances in nosocomial infection prevention and control.

Brucellosis, a globally significant zoonosis, poses substantial but often underappreciated risks within healthcare and allied professional environments. This narrative review synthesizes current research advances in the prevention and control of nosocomial and occupational brucellosis, addressing a critical gap in the existing literature that has predominantly focused on community-acquired transmission. We examine seven key dimensions: laboratory-acquired brucellosis and biosafety lapses; occupational exposure risks among healthcare workers, veterinarians, and abattoir personnel; epidemiology

Concussion Recovery: The Essential Role of School-Based Occupational Therapy Practitioners.

Concussions are prevalent in youth and often contribute to occupational challenges related to postconcussion syndrome within the educational setting. Despite the advancements that have been made in the occupational therapy management of concussion, school-based occupational therapy practitioners are seeking clarity in service delivery because there is no clear framework that guides service provision for postconcussed youth within the educational setting. In this column, we emphasize the role of school-based occupational therapists as an existing source of support within the school structure, d

Job satisfaction in the health professions: The role of affective temperaments.

BACKGROUND: Job satisfaction, as a multidimensional psychological response to work experience, includes both cognitive and affective components which influence individuals' appraisals and state of minds. In recent years, researchers have begun to explore the psychological processes that might underlie the dispositional causes of job satisfaction. Affective temperaments can influence the experience of emotionally significant events at work and this, in turn, may influence job satisfaction. OBJECTIVE: To investigate possible associations between affective temperamental features and job satisfac

Representations of Research among Newly Graduated Paramedical Professionals: A Qualitative Study.

Despite a keen interest in clinical research, most paramedical professionals are unwilling to play an active role. Our objective was to explore paramedical professionals' representations of research. Using an existing database of final year paramedical students (speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychomotricity, audiometry, physiotherapy, orthoptics), we deployed a qualitative approach composed of two successive steps: (1) a free word association task, and (2) semi-structured individual interviews. Out of the 54 students who agreed to be contacted, we received 21 responses to the free word

Decontamination Strategies for Filtering Facepiece Respirators (FFRs) in Healthcare Organizations: A Comprehensive Review.

Filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) are made for one-time use. A massive shortage of FFRs is widespread during pandemic events and has forced many healthcare organizations to decontaminate them and re-use for a limited time. Many decontamination methods have been proposed for the decontamination of FFRs. This review highlights various aspects of decontamination methods available in the literature. Among various methods available, vaporized hydrogen peroxide, ultraviolet irradiation, and dry heat seem to be the most promising decontaminants for FFRs. On the other hand, microwave, bleach, eth
