The symphysis pubis is a nonsynovial amphiarthrodial joint that is situated at the confluence of the two pubic bones. A thick intrapubic fibrocartilaginous disc is sandwiched between thin layers of hyaline cartilage. The inferior pubic ligament provides most of the joint's stability. Anatomic sections demonstrate a symphysis by the end of the second month of gestation. Thick cartilaginous end-plates are present at birth but become thin by the time of skeletal maturity. Congenital diseases resulting in failure of symphysis formation include exstrophy of the bladder and cleidocranial dysostosis.

Endometrial carcinoma includes several specific subtypes which have differing prognostic implications. The two most common subtypes are adenocarcinoma, not otherwise specified (NOS), and adenoacanthoma. The findings in 308 TMJ arthrograms (280 patients) with selective contrast injection into the inferior compartment are described. An anteriorly luxated meniscus was diagnosed in 231 cases (75%). In 99 cases (32%) the meniscus returned to a normal position spontaneously during opening of the mouth, whereas in 132 cases (43%) the subluxation was permanent. Spongy encephalopathies are rare diseases of infancy and childhood. Apart from cerebral spongiosis in the forms described as Canavan's disease and the Kearns-Sayre syndrome, necrosis in the cerebral tissue is also found in Alpers' disease and Leigh's syndrome. The common pathogenetic factor may be sought in the sphere of mitochondrial energy metabolism, as suggested by the results of molecular pathological investigations. Biochemical enzyme deficiencies in energy metabolism obviously provoke structural alterations of mitochondria.

A retrospective analysis of 19.760 consecutive autopsies and 72.972 biopsies in a period of over 41 years disclosed 24 intracranial tuberculomas in 17 patients, representing 4,2% of the intracranial space-occupying lesions.
