Editorial Commentary: Open Bankart Procedure for Anterior Shoulder Instability Is Recommended for Contact Athletes With Bony Bankart Fractures or Approximately 10% Glenoid Bone Loss.

Recurrent anterior shoulder instability with subcritical bone loss is a challenging clinical scenario. Many treatment options have been described, including arthroscopic Bankart repair, arthroscopic Bankart repair plus remplissage, open Bankart repair, and the Latarjet procedure. Arthroscopic Bankart repair alone has higher rates of failure in high-risk patient populations, especially at long-term follow-up. These high-risk populations include patients with significant glenoid bone loss (>20%), bipolar bone loss (including subcritical bone loss and off-track or "near-track" [8-10 mm] Hill-Sach

Psychobehavioral B-Criteria of Somatic Symptom Disorder Are Associated with Somatic Symptom Reporting in a Large Sample of Psychosomatic Outpatients.

INTRODUCTION: Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) as introduced by the DSM-5 is characterized by chronic somatic symptoms not fully explained by underlying pathology and accompanied by psychological factors, the diagnostic B-criteria. These cognitive, affective, and behavioral disturbances are related to increased attention to somatic symptoms. However, there is a lack of empirical evidence regarding the association between the B-criteria and high symptom reporting in clinical settings. METHODS: This 12-year retrospective, cross-sectional, observational study examined 6,491 patients from a German

Comparison of clinical outcomes and return to sport between unicortical versus bicortical button fixation techniques for subpectoral biceps tenodesis.

PURPOSE: There is limited clinical outcome data comparing fixation methods for tenodesis of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT), particularly button fixation. The purpose of this study was to compare clinical outcomes, patient-reported outcomes, and return to sport (RTS) between patients undergoing LHBT with bicortical versus unicortical button technique. The authors hypothesized these fixation methods would be similar for all outcomes. METHODS: Patients who underwent LHBT using unicortical or bicortical button fixation with minimum 2-year follow-up were identified. Postoperative outcom

Pancreatectomy Induces Cancer-Promoting Neutrophil Extracellular Traps.

BACKGROUND: Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) occur when neutrophil chromatin is decondensed and extruded into the extracellular space in a web-like structure. Originally described as an anti-microbial function, this process has been implicated in the pathogenesis of pancreatic disease. In addition, NETs are upregulated during physiologic wound-healing and coagulation. This study evaluated how the inflammatory response to pancreatic surgery influences NET formation. METHODS: For this study, 126 patients undergoing pancreatectomy gave consent before participation. Plasma was collected at s

Effectiveness, barriers and facilitating factors of strategies for active delabelling of patients with penicillin allergy labels: a systematic review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Up to 15% of adult patients in the clinical setting report to be allergic to penicillin. However, in most cases, penicillin allergy is not confirmed. Due to the negative aspects associated with erroneous penicillin allergy, the implementation of active delabelling processes for penicillin allergy is an important part of antibiotic stewardship programmes. Depending on the clinical setting, different factors need to be considered during implementation. This review examines the effectiveness of different delabelling interventions and summarises components and structures that facilit

Goal setting in people with low back pain attending an education and exercise program (GLA:D Back) and the impact of demographic factors.

BACKGROUND: Individual goal setting is a fundamental element in self-management supportive interventions, serving to guide actions and enhance motivation for engagement. Despite this, little is known about the goals people with back pain have and to what extent these differ across genders, age groups and geographical location. This study aimed to elucidate this by first describing individual goals set by Danish and Canadian participants in a self-management intervention for people with back pain using the ICF framework; then, determining what proportion of these goals met criteria for being sp

Predicting recurrence of instability after a primary traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation.

AIMS: The risk factors for recurrent instability (RI) following a primary traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation (PTASD) remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to determine the rate of RI in a large cohort of patients managed nonoperatively after PTASD and to develop a clinical prediction model. METHODS: A total of 1,293 patients with PTASD managed nonoperatively were identified from a trauma database (mean age 23.3 years (15 to 35); 14.3% female). We assessed the prevalence of RI, and used multivariate regression modelling to evaluate which demographic- and injury-related factors were inde
