We sought to assess the clinical effectiveness of a new plate design which offers improved biological and biomechanical features, the limited contact dynamic compression (LCDC) plate. We analysed 114 LCDC plates applied consecutively for upper extremity fractures or reconstruction in 94 patients. Three patients were lost to follow-up, leaving 111 plates in 91 patients followed to definitive fracture/osteotomy outcome. We describe the indications and the results in 18 bone lengthenings carried out on 14 patients in our department during the period January 1991 to September 1993. Seven patients had limb length inequality, five patients had dysplasia or aplasia, one patient had Turner's syndrome and one patient had suffered traumatic amputation of all the fingers of one hand. Thirty-three patients with pain and decreased range of motion after traumatic derangement of the distal radioulnar and ulna-carpal joint were treated with a modified Darrach distal ulnar resection. AIM: Long-term results after resection of comminuted fractures of the radial head (Mason III and IV) may lead to valgus elbow instability, radius proximalisation and rotatory instability. Radial head replacement has been used to prevent and treat these complications. OBJECTIVE: Anorexia nervosa is associated with low bone mineral density (BMD) and deficits in bone microarchitecture and strength. Low BMD is common in atypical anorexia nervosa, in which criteria for anorexia nervosa are met except for low weight.
