Two- or five-Hz electrical stimulation of the central end of the left pelvic nerve severed from the urinary bladder in rats inhibited bladder contraction induced by intravesical infusion of Tyrode's solution. Inhibition of bladder motility by 2-Hz nerve stimulation appeared after pretreatment with strychnine (0.3 mg/kg, i.v.), naloxone (1 mg/kg, i.v.) and picrotoxin (1 mg/kg, i.v.). Three studies examined gamma-butyrolactone (Gbl) for benzodiazepine-like effects on low rates of food reinforced lever pressing by rats. A fourth study established Gbl's discriminative properties. Although Strongyloides stercoralis is a common parasite, little is known about its effect on intestinal function. Published clinical studies are difficult to evaluate and compare because of the inability to differentiate the effects of the parasite load from that of various other coexisting features such as bacterial overgrowth, multiparasitism, malnutrition, or tropical sprue. Murine toxin of Yersinia pestis when injected in the rat tail vein (LD50) caused pronounced alterations in PGE1 and PGF2 alpha content in different tissues (lung, heart, spleen, liver, kidney, small intestine) and blood. Heat-inactivated toxin has been shown to have the same effects as the intact toxin preparation. The changes in PG content are, probably, due to the lipopolysaccharide component of both preparations. The differences in metabolic effects between Yersinia pestis endotoxin and lipopolysaccharides of other Gram-negative bacteria are discussed.

Mouse Pvt-1 and rat MIS1 are frequent proviral integration sites in retrovirally induced lymphomas. The Pvt-1 locus is also involved in mouse plasmacytoma (6;15) and in the variant Burkitt lymphoma (2;8) translocations. We show that the Pvt-1/MIS1 locus is syntenic with MYC on rat chromosome 7. This is consistent with a postulate of close linkage and, possibly, a functional relationship between the MYC protooncogene and the MIS1/Pvt-1 locus.

Unidirectional Tl+-fluxes across the isolated mucosa of rat descending colon were measured under short circuit (SCC) or voltage clamp conditions (VCC).
